Its because its somewhat famous
by kimcat43 at Citysearch
Pancake Pantry has been around since the 60's and I am sure in its HAYDAY the food and the service was supreme. But its just a resturant. The food is no better than IHOP or Cracker Barrel. Its just because its been on TV and famous. If you read most of reviews from all kinds of people, you will see its nothing special. Its just a resturant. It has its good days and bad. I think it really depends on who the cooks are. Some days the food will be good other days not so good. No if you just want some good food its not worth waiting in line for a long time. Go to IHOP or Cracker Barrell or lol Shoneys. But if you are here visiting here and you want to eat there to say you have been there fine. But again if you are just hungry and want to eat breakfast this may not be the place for you.
- Pros: Its just food.
- Cons: Long lines and not worth the hassell
Hype brings 'em in.

I think everyone that lives in nashville, has heard of this place. Its legendary, but in my opinion the food is only average. Today I had your basic eggs, sausage, and pancakes. With a name like the pancake pantry you would expect the pancakes to steal the show, but honestly I've had better. The service is pretty spotty too. in the past i've been served fairly quickly, but the past two times I've been to the restaurant, i've had to wait atleast 10-15 minutes before my order was taken. I understand there were busy, but its no excuse. Also some of the staff might want to check their attitudes when they are talking to others. When I asked for a box at the counter for my food, a waitress huff and puffed while she went off to get my box, and then she didnt see me as she returned and said "where the hell is he?!??!? I'll remember that next time I decide where to have breakfast.
- Pros: Some of the speciality pancakes, especially the parisienne (SP?) are very good.
- Cons: Service has its ups and downs. Super high expectations cant possibly be met with the food.
A Staple to Nashville Tourist but Good After a Late Night for the Locals
by thenashvillian at Citysearch
I am a Nashvillin who lives close to The Pancake Pantry and I eat here SOMETIMES. The parking in the Village is a pain but there is plenty of parking behind the Belcourt Theater across the street. The line does get long on weekends early in the morning, so come early or dressed accordingly. The service has always been a mix, much like in other restaurants. It can get a little pricey but again, this is Hillsboro Village in Nashville, so don't expect discount food. The atmosphere is noisy and it does bother me when people are standing outside looking in at you to hurry up. But the food is good in my opinion and you should be full when you leave unless you are on a 2000+/day calorie diet. I have never had a bad experience here nor have I had a memorable one. It is one of those places to check off if you are new or a tourist to Nashvegas but not somewhere we locals eat religiously. My one concern, which has been addressed in previous post, is their consistently low health score. Year after year they cannot achieve above a 70 which is well below failing in the health inspector business. Overall, I give The Pancake Pantry a 3 star because it is not bad enough for a lower score but not unique enough for a 4 or 5.
- Pros: Good Food, Good Experience
- Cons: Over Rated, Consistantly Poor Health Score
Nothing great about the Pancake Pantry
by sedens at Citysearch
I used to live in Nashville and have been to the Pancake Pantry many times. First tip: avoid the weekends unless you want to wait in line for an hour. The food is ok, nothing great. I always feel as though I'm being rushed by the staff and the staring eyes of the people in line who want your table. One word that does not describe Pancake Pantry is "relaxing".
The lure of the Pancake Pantry is that it used to be the place to see country stars when they were taking a break from recording on music row. Not so anymore. Now it's just a hangout for tourists and Vandy kids.
It's not so bad on a weekday morning; about like any other busy diner. The pancakes are decent, but honestly, I usually only go if I'm with someone else who wants to go there.
I don't live in Nashville anymore, and I really don't miss the Pancake Pantry.
No worth the wait!!

The first time I saw the line outside I was impress, so I thought I had to give it a try.....one thing I got to say thou...: of course you will think the food is great after waiting an hour outside by the time you get to seat and eat you are so starved that everything will taste great!! I didn't care for the service, the food is okey, nothing out of this world to make a long wait worth.....
- Pros: hmnnn ..honestly I can't think of anything..
- Cons: long long wait, too expensive for the quality of the food
The most overrated restarant in Nashville

If you like long lines for food that is comparable to Denny's, try Pancake Pantry. It is definitely a tourist trap. If you want great brunch, go to Noshville!
Good food, not worth a long wait, though.

We read about the Pancake Pantry before going to Nashville, so we decided to stop in and see how it was. We arrived at a nice lull, and only had to wait 10 minutes to get a seat; service was fairly slow, but the food was good. Pancakes were available in a huge variety, and the 3 kinds we tried were good; the Grill Cook's Medley was also tasty.
However, the food was not a fabulous treat worth waiting 30-60 minutes for, which is about how long the line was outside when we left. Recommendation: stop in, see how long the wait is, and try it if it's not too bad.
- Pros: Variety, Tasty pancakes
- Cons: Long waits, Difficult parking
Not worth the wait
by tnhighc at Citysearch
After hearing how great the food was, we decided to give PP a try. Knowing there would be a wait, we wound up waiting maybe 10 to 15 min to get inside and get seated. Once seated, we got a menu thrown on the table and were ignored for almost 20 minutes until we flagged down a waitress. She came back over 5 min later and took our order. It was a good 20 min before we got our meal. No one came to ask about drink refills. When a "trainer" came to deliver a plate of food, we asked if we could get our ticket, because we were running late and had not expected to take quite so long. The "trainer" very rudely informed us we should not have come there if we did not want to wait. She was rude and unprofessional and we will not go back.
- Pros: food ok
- Cons: service terrible, servers need manners
No Cakes for You!
by nvs39 at Citysearch
I was always told that if you go to Nashville, you must eat at the Pancake Pantry
After standing in line for 45 minutes, we were seated rather hurriedly, bringing to mind the famous Soup Nazi episode from Seinfeld. Afraid to request a table for fear of being told No Cakes for You! I squeezed myself into a booth, we ordered cakes and coffee and water which were delivered to our table rather quickly, that is were the service ended. We did not see our waitress again until we were finished eating. The cakes were okay not sure they were worth the wait especially when coupled with the lack of service. The highlight was catching a glimpse of Erin from Apprentice.
- Pros: Off the list
- Cons: Service (lack of)
The ultimate tourist trap
by amybaby301 at Citysearch
I love breakfast more than any other meal, and the buttermilk pancakes at Pancake Pantry are one of my favorites-but I absolutely refuse to wait in line for something that I can get elsewhere for less money, while receiving better service. Although I like the food at PP, their service is not good and the atmosphere is noisy-usually with lots of kids and many pushy people. If you're visiting nashville, check it out to say you've been, but go in the afternoon to avoid standing in line for a barely mediocre experience.
