bad brow wax, worse attitude!
by stacystacystacy
I don't like to throw out names but if you get a brow wax ask for someone older. I had never been there for a wax and I just went with the person with the prettiest name. :) She turned out to be a very young girl who was not properly trained. She pulled the strip very very hard and tore the skin. She then said that she was just going to put something like Sodium Dioxide (?) on it. So...salt in my wound? I know it was some sort of sodium product. When I called the salon, they put her on the phone and she blamed me and asked what I wash with or applied to it. She blamed a chemical reaction to a retinol product. I told her I don't use anything like that. She said that it was fine if I wanted my money refunded but encouraged me to tell people that I have sensitive skin and left the phone by saying, "good luck". Everybody's eyelids are sensitive!!! I intend to go back tomorrow and not just get my money back but show them how she scarred me.
first time in 30 years I have been treated like an equal at one of these places
by r_o_x_i_e
Not only do they treat you like an equal, but they make you feel special. They kept raving about my hair which is just a big fat naturally curly aka mat-prone mop. Not only was my hair stylist, Barbara, very nice, but she came out to greet me, showed me where to go, came and got me as soon as the shampoo girl was done, and at the end showed me the way out, and I was not wandering around like an idiot in a house of mirrors. She also made some suggestions and charged me a fair price. And she enabled me to do my good deed for the day by asking me if I wanted to donate nine inches of my hair to the Vanderbilt program that makes wigs for children with cancer.
I could count on one hand the number of times I have been in a beauty parlor since I was a kid. I am VERY uncomfortable in places like this, and I need my hair stylist to make me feel comfortable. In the past I always end up with snotheaded young girls, the kind who treated me like dirt in school, and I stay away from these places for years and attempt to cut my hair myself. I am grateful to finally find a place I can finally go and not dread going.
BEWARE!
by bc1212
BEWARE! I was charged $75 for the single worst hair cut of my life. It is uneven and reminds me of a SuperCuts/Great Clips hair cut, except 3 times the price. AWFUL! It was just a simple trim and was completely uneven.
In addition, the overall quality of the salon was not up to par for charging such expensive prices. It was dirty. There was hair dye on the walls, old hair on the ground, and the guy who shampooed my hair had just been picking his teeth 2 seconds before washing my hair. It was a gross experience that my hair will never forgive me for.
They have a policy where you can come back and the person who did your hair will fix it for you for free. The stylist was so bad I won't even do that. I'm going to go pay some other salon to fix what this salon messed up.
If you are brave enough to go to this salon, be sure you know who is cutting your hair. If they are Illusion employees, their prices are much cheaper ($40-$45), but if you go to someone who is just renting space there (I didn't find out until afterwards that this is the case) their prices are MUCH more expensive ($75-$80) and probably more dicey service.
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: Poor Service, AWFUL Quality, Expensive and Poor Atmosphere
One bad haircut, another good!! same place but different part of the salon.
by Gwynee
I thought a $40 haircut would be great but the girl in a front booth does not listen and did layers, used a hot iron after I said not too. I have gone back and had a totally different person cut my hair and now happy! Be sure they have enough experience and don't try the girl in the front. Thanks Gwynee I am very clear speaking and you would think she would have listened.
Best Hair cutt and salon
by lgpackleader
I get my hair cut by Daina. She took what was the worst hair cut i have ever had by someone else and made it into the best hair cut ever. She is a good friend as well as a hair stylist. I have also gotten eye waxing there and they did a great job. The facials are the best. I love having my face massaged. They did a great job. I WILL go back
- Pros: friendly staff,
Great Hair Stylist, Great Hair Salon
by brunette
I lived in Nashville almost ten years and "D. Martin" had been the greatest hair stylist I have ever had. He not only knows how to give a great hair cut, but also excellent hair color. I never had to remind him what I want or need, once I became his regular customer. When my husband found a job in Seattle, WA, I had one of the biggest scares of my life. How am I going to replace my hair stylist?
It will be almost one year this summer, since I left Nashville and settled down in Seattle, but I am still looking for a talent at the same level.
I was a regular customer at Illusions (for years) and I have not seen the same level of organized, neat structure in every hair salon that I would expect.
I definetely miss hair stylist.
- Pros: Parking, Staff, Quality of Services
- Cons: None
Lack of service at the front desk
by supernova375
I made an appointment for wax treatment on Monday for Tuesday morning at 9 am.
I showed up at 9:02 and observed either manicurist or stylist sitting and talking on the phone at the front desk or desks as they have them. She seemed to have personal casual conversation at totally ignored me. At the next desk I observed 2 ladies one standing on the desk and fixing light bulb or something to that effect. The one who was sitting behind the desk looked at me as if 'why are you here?' and asked me what I needed. I said that I had waxing appointment. She pointed to the brown door and paged skin care on the intercome but did not check the books or looked at anything. (she appeared to be tired and bored ;she was young and wearing glasses)
In any case I ended up in a waiting lounge and several staff members ( 3 to be exact)came up to me within a period of 20 min and asked me who was helping me. 2 did not bother to do anything further, 3rd one went out to check the books only to come back and tell me that my appointment was booked for Wednesday. I said that was sad got up and left. I did not see anyone trying to appologize or take the ownership of the situation. They just did not bother as if they were doing me a favor just by letting me be there and inhale Illusions' Salon air. I will never find out how good skills are of people who work there because I will not go there again (I went to Escape and got great treatment). But based on a lack of service at front desk, wasting more that 20 min of my time, and somewhat snobby attitude of some staff I can be pretty confident services at Illusions are not up to par (emotional state is a part of any spa treatment)
I hope Illusions can read this and take positive steps toward some changes (so badly needed there)
- Pros: Possibly location
- Cons: Lack of service
For Belle Meade belles who need to refresh with steam showers or massages.
by Contributor
In Short
Illusion is one-stop shopping for the highly stressed. Sip tea and snack on muffins in the morning, followed by an herbal steam shower and a complete body massage. Then freshen up from head to toe with a facial and a spa pedicure. Ladies, don't miss out on the makeup application and color consultation. There's a gourmet lunch and a to-go bag of product samples to keep up your appearances as well.
No waxing skills
by bethy015
I had my eyebrows waxed at this salon and it was a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. First of all the woman did not have any idea how to shape eyebrows. She pulled three wax strips (one in the middle and one on each side) and showed me a mirror. She wasen't going to trim, she didn't shape the top. I am not sure what I was paying for. AND for a salon that presents itself as upscale it definately does not take care of its customers. After eyebrow waxing you have BRIGHT RED brows, with a make-up counter right outside of the waxing area you would think they would touch you up with a little cover-up. Nope. Bad sign. I WOULD NOT GO TO THIS SALON FOR ANY OTHER SERVICES>
- Pros: easy to park... can't think of anything else
- Cons: no skills, not professional, not friendly
Best Spa and Salon Ever
by srbusic
I have experienced practically every service this spa has to offer. The staff has been extremely kind and professional. They are not satisfied with their work until I am satisfied. I have never had a bad hair cut (and my hair is everything to me). From waxing to massages, these guys are wonderful.
In addition, no one pressures you to buy their products. They recommend what would be good for you and steer you away from products you are buying that might not be the best choice for you. I picked up a $50.00 hair product once and my hair stylist made me return it for a product that cost $13.00, which ended up working better.
Some services are expensive while others are very reasonable. However, the outcome is always worth the cost.
