Used to be good...

by bboys312

I used to love the Exit In but is has quickly become one of my least favorite venues in Nashville. My recent experience just solidified that. After standing in line for 45 minutes to get into a show I told the guy checking ID's that they needed more staff because people were having to wait forever out in the cold. He copped an attitude with me and soon began shoving me out the door and into the crowd of people. My girlfriend and I tried to reason with the staff but they cursed us out and told us to never come back. It was a sold out show and they were completely unprepared to handle it. I am protesting my credit card charges and NEVER going back to this awful place again. I have never been treated so rudely at a place I was a paying patron of. Awful awful business practices, they should be ashamed of themselves.

Let us hope the good bands that come to Nashville from now on do the smart thing and play somewhere else. This venue has fallen from a fun place to go into a total mess. The staff is among the worst of ANY PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN. Their bar service is terrible and the bathrooms are disgusting. I can't even imagine being a girl and having to deal with that.

Looking for a good music venue? Check out any of the following: the Ryman, Mercy Lounge/Cannary Ballroom, The End, 12th and Porter, War Memorial, Limelight, etc. I will never go to this place again, it is a terribly run music venue and there is no artist there could ever make me want to go back there.

  • Pros: Sometimes has good bands
  • Cons: Terribly rude staff, bad bar, disgusting restrooms

AWFUL

by cass2

WORST VENUE EVER!!!! They are soo strict, they watch for people to HOLD a beer for someone then immediately kick them out, they are so expensive, they bouncers are SO RUDE and fat, the SMALLEST venue ever, he will take your fake, SO DON'T USE IT!

All around worst venue I've ever been to. They don't care about the music, they just care about busting people after they paid to get in.

They hate all the hippies that go there and they make fun of them... Too bad a lot of good artists come through there... WE NEED TO CHANGE THAT!!!!

DO NOT PARK IN THE PAY LOT

by bluegrrl

DO NOT PARK IN THE PAY LOT next to Cafe Coco. We paid $5 to park there and got booted anyway. It happened to a couple of other cars that night, too. All of us paid. All of us got booted. All of us had to pay $50 to get the boot removed. I remember joking that we should have recorded ourselves on our cell phones putting money into the slot in case we got towed. We should have. I won't park there again, but if you do, generate your own record for paying. It's a racket. Don't park anywhere where they don't give you a receipt.

Good place for live music.

by rocksis

We went down here to see the VilleBillies play Feb 20th, it was my first time there. Bud Light is a little pricey, $4 a bottle, but the atmosphere is good. It was very empty on the Tuesday night I was there, about 40 people, max. Really good place for live music with plenty of room although not enough tables on the ground floor. Based on this visit I would recommend it for listening to live music, but not much else.

  • Pros: Great stage, good sized floor, good bands.
  • Cons: Not much parking, a little pricey beer, too few tables.

Legendary venue hosts big-name touring acts and local favorites in an intimate space.

In Short
Despite numerous reopenings over the past 30 years, Exit/In is still a Music City landmark. The club has made great strides since its unassuming early days, as depicted in Robert Altman's "Nashville." These days, Exit books well-known indie, rock and country acts like Emmylou Harris and the Donnas. With its large stage and two-tiered seating and standing area, Exit can easily accommodate shows that draw anywhere from 50 to 450 people.

I'm in the music business

by alwaysontheroad

and this is a fantastic venue. Great service and excellent sound system. I caught Josh Rouse here on New Years Eve and he was filming a DVD which made it very cool. The prices for beer were very reasonable. There is also a board that lists the artists that have graced the stage. The list is very impressive. If you're in Nashville, definitely get by to check out a show at the Exit, In.

  • Pros: Great sound, good beer prices, atmosphere

Music beats the venue

by volknife

Concert starts at 9PM. I arrived at 8:30PM, and the doors were still locked. As I waited outside in the cold, I learn that the show is sold-out, and everyone is excited. The guy in front of me has no tickets, but he claims he spoke to someone from the Exit/In, and they have 20 tickets remaining. At 9:10PM, they open the doors. I'm near the front of the line, but by the time I get to the door there are already several angry people arguing about not being able to get tickets. Finally, at 9:45PM, the warm-up band begins. They finish up by 10:30. At 11:00, the real show starts. The headliners rock the place. The moral of the story: have your tickets, and be prepared to stand all night. There are no seats, just concrete. But if the music's good, you cannot help but have a good time.

  • Pros: great music, free to stand, good parking
  • Cons: no seats, long lines, crowded

Tired Legs for Vince

by k_mark_811

Vince Gill put on a great show Wednesday 1/15, but standing up for four hours was terrible. Some tables and chairs would make the Exit/In experience something I would want to repeat.

  • Pros: Vince
  • Cons: Standing up, restroom
