Finally Chinese Food!

We went last night after someone at work recommended. They were right this place was great. The food was fantastic and the staff was curteous and attentive.

The restaurant is such a depature from typical Chinese eateries in the South. No buffet, authentic dishes (if that's your style) and a warm staff of servers await. The menu is a bit daunting but it clearly expresses to eat in courses. I usually order soup, an appetizer and then split an entree. The lo mein portions easily feed two. It's a hidden jewel in the culture-starved Rivergate area.

Excellent, fresh made Chinese food - heads and tails above the typical Chinese Buffet type food

We went to China Cottege in the McHenry shopping center in the Rivergate area for the first time a few weeks ago. Usually we get Chinese food at a buffet - lord knows there are hundreds of those in middle Tennessee. China Cottege is so different from buffet fair that you have to try it for yourself. All of their food is made to order. The restaurant is clean and comfortable but not overly fancy. Prices are very reasonable especially considering the quality of the food. We tried the Vegitable Moo Shu - it was excellent. Sweet and sour pork was very very good. The Crab Rangoon is to die for and the Hot and Sour soup is so good it will make you want to cancel your entree and order three more bowls. By far the best chinese restaurant in the Goodlettsville, Hendersonville, Madison area. They have dine in and take out - BUT NO BUFFET - YEAH!!!!

After dinner you can stroll down to Books a Million or Hobby Lobby and work off that great meal you just ate.

• Cons: In a strip mall

I REALLY like Chinese food, and I really like China Cottage

If it has "Orange" in the name, it's going to be good. I've never had a dish there I didn't like. The spicy dishes are particularly good. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant east of the Rockies.

Great food, great service, wonderful dining experience

When my husband and I moved to the Rivergate area, we began to search for our favorite restaurants. It didn't take us long. China Cottage is a wonderful dining experience. The staff is friendly and accomodating. The food is WONDERFUL! It's the best Chinese food we've ever had.

*Best Orange Shrimp Around*

I get mine extra spicy. Watch out though. The the flavor of the orange is there too. The shrimp must be small lobsters. I bet they do a spicy orange chicken too if you ask.

Hidden treasure!

The 7.1 rating is too low. The food is great. The MSG-free portion of the menu actually is. They have white linen table cloths & napkins & a fresh flower on each table. It is very clean & tidy. There is no buffet which for me is a plus. It is more relaxing to be able to sit, visit, & be waited on. Isn't that why we go to a restaurant in the first place. It is conveniently located near Books-A-Milion in Rivergate.

• Pros: inexpensive, not crowded, good parking
