Beautiful accomodations, but poor service and inappropriate owner

by anniebrown at Citysearch

A close friend recently married here and the facility was beautiful. However, some of the day was overshadowed by the staff, primarily the owner. She was intrusive and at times, inappropriate. On a few occasions, she barged into the room where the bride was getting ready (the ONLY bathroom in the blding) and told her more and more things she couldn't do. The lighting was very poor in this room and because we were trying to do our hair/make-up, we moved a small lamp from one room into this small, dark bathroom. The owner was very upset, talked to us like we were children and removed the lamp. We were relying on natural sunlight to light the room but as darkness began to fall, it became almost impossible. This woman should, by now, know that brides are nervous and that to impede further on thier most special day is simply unacceptable.

The most beautiful place for a wedding

by rwaite at Citysearch

Recently we celebrated my daughter's wedding at Shadowbrook. From the first time we stepped into Shadowbrook in Jan. for the booking until the last time, Oct. for the wedding, we were beyond pleased. First of all it is the most beautiful place to hold a wedding. Secondly, our wedding planner, Ms. Davenport was full of ideas and helpful advice. She allowed us to create the wedding of my daughter's dream. We received many positive comments that evening from local, as well as, out of town guests. They were amazed by the beauty of the place, the food, and the service. What drew us to Shadowbrook in the first place was the "old world" atmosphere. The home is full of antiques which adds to its charm. As guests in this home we took care to ask before changing anything. When asked anything, Ms. Davenport made every effort to accomadate, even to the extent of coming up with a better idea. This was a great experience and our family hopes to have many more events at Shadowbrook.

A taste of the Old World nestled in the woods of Joelton.

In Short
Arched doorways, stone rooms, three log-burning fireplaces and the ivy-covered tower contribute to this English Tudor mansion's European ambiance. Built in 1929 from stone and hand-hewn virgin timbers, Shadowbrook now hosts weddings, rehearsal dinners, receptions, banquets, or any other kind of gathering. Catering is on-site, and features down-home Southern cooking prepared expressly by owner-operators Nelson and Clara Rawlings Davenport and their capable staff.
