If you work downtown, there are few restaurants that have so many things going for them as 417 Union does at lunchtime. Their REAL milkshakes are to die for and have gotten me through many a long tax-season afternoon. The location is excellent--so central. The service is friendly, "homey," efficient, and accurate, which makes for successful and pleasant business lunches as well as casual lunch engagements like afternoon breaks or office birthday outings. The atmosphere has so much character! Like going back in time to the 1940s--not that I was alive back then, but the place simply captures the essence of an era when life was clearer and patriotism was a little easier to come by. But best of all, the FOOD is great--big portions, delicious, satisfying--comfort food, deli food, healthy food, whatever you're looking for it's on the menu. I liked it so much that I've gone back for dinner a few times and was similarly impressed. It would also be a great place for a party.

Pros: food, service, atmosphere

Cons: none, really

We have eaten at 417 Union several times. The food has been good every time, whether we had hot, tasty sandwiches, pasta, traditional southern cuisine, or treats from the old-fashioned soda fountain. .Our servers were prompt, friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the 40's theme, and the rooms upstairs are absolutely beautiful. We do not live in Nashville, but 417 seems to be very conveniently located in its downtown location.

Everytime I walk into 417 Union, I feel like I'm coming home. I love getting the Salmon Caesar Salad, but then the waitress (always friendly) comes over and suggests one of their delicious desserts, or I give myself a treat with a Chocolate Coke Float or Vanilla Milkshake! Man, oh, man, and then there's the fries. And whenever there's someone playing upstairs on a Saturday night, I just have to come and check them out....this is by far, my favorite place to hang!

Pros: Salmon Caesar Salad, Fries, Shakes, Floats

Cons: Parking, but if you work downtown, they're close enough to walk from everywhere!

I love this restaurant! The food is fabulous, very flavorful! The atmosphere downstairs is a 40's soda bar theme and upstairs they have a local art gallery, some art better than others. We had both breakfast and lunch and I loved the pancakes, and my daughter's French toast was awesome. We enjoyed it so much we went back for lunch. At lunch we shared the Reuben and Gumbo. The best I've ever had. We later went for a show at TPAC, and it was within walking distance, about 1.5 blocks. I was so inspired I wrote this review, the first I've ever written. The restaurant was recommended by the nearby hotel staff, and when we casually mentioned the place to another TPAC patron, they said they eat there all the time, and recommended we try the Rattlesnake pasta, which is really chicken. I can't wait to go back. Oh and my daughter had a wonderful caramel shake too.

Pros: food & service

Cons: can't think of any

The atmosphere is wonderful in this restaurant, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover it is only blocks away from Broadway. However, the food was really terrible. I dont know if we just came on a bad day or what, but the fries were cold, the lettuce on my salad was limp and dirty, and the quality of ingredients jut overall seemed really cheap. I would not recommend eating here.

Pros: Atmosphere

Cons: Parking, Food

A group of friends and I found this restaurant while aimlessly wandering around Nashville on a Saturday morning. It was a small restaurant with a "neighborhood pub" feel to it--my favorite! We were all craving breakfast, and were pleased that 417 seems to offer a breakfast menu nearly all day. I ordered a (rancho?) omlette with some sort of hash browns and sausage. The omlette was nothing short of AMAZING! From the first bite my mouth was singing the praises of 417 Union! The eggs: cooked to perfection. The rancho filling: seasoned just right. The cheese: deliciously melty. And don't get me started on those home-fried potatoes. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great breakfast at a fantastic price. Also, the bar seemed to be stocked with a variety of interesting beers...would be a great spot to watch a game without being surrounded by a huge crowd.

Pros: Food, Service, Atmoshpere, Selection

Cons: I don't live closer:(

After a night in Nashville, my husband and I decided to grap some breakfast before heading home. We went to this quaint little place close to our hotel. My husband and I ordered the steak and eggs. I have to say, that was the best steak and eggs we have ever had. The food was wonderful, the service was exceptional, and the upstairs art gallery was nice to look at. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. We cannot wait to return to Nashville and try them out for lunch and dinner.

Pros: food, ambience, service
