After a three week search for the perfect venue to host a 90th birthday celebration for my father's closest friends and family, I happened upon Macke's while searching for another restaurant using City Search. Upon reading the restaurant information, I decided to call and then to visit. From beginning to end, every contact was delightful and professional. Jan and Jill at Macke's cared as much about my father's celebration as I did, and helped me to execute the perfect evening for 30+ guests. Our waiters were attentive and pleasant as we engaged in a spectacular menu of individual choices for each guest. Jan, Jill and I had worked together to designed a variety of course choices specific for our celebration. All guests departed commenting on what a spectacular evening we enjoyed, and that surely Macke's is the best kept secret for fine dining with a personal touch in Green Hills!
Pros: parking - ample convenient parking in Green Hills - unbeliveable but true
Cons: none come to mind

With a new chef comes change and in Mackes case the change is extreme and more than welcome. Chef Willis describes his cuisine as elevated Southern and that is evident from the simple yet delicious combinations. Simple food that taste great. What a winning combination. Everything including the service I received was top-notch. This restaurant has come a long way from its beginnings and it is a journey that is paying dividends in wonderfully prepared food. Looking forward to more great things from Mackes.
Pros: Both casual and dressy seating
Cons: Hidden away

We had dinner on Saturday night at this great intimate restaurant. The atomsphere was exceptional and the food was the best we have had in this city. The chef has captured the essence of Southern gourmet. Stick around Mackes we will be seeing alot of you!!!
Pros: Excellent
Cons: A little hidden away

I've had dinner here 4 times in August. The food and the atmosphere are the best. The fresh est ingredients (especially the seafood) and everything is made with love. FRIED COLLARD GREENS? They come with the corn-encrusted grouper and heirloom tomato vinagrette. Also, with the crab cakes (which beat any crab cake on the Chesapeake Bay). This place is top notch.

My wife and I were delightfully surprised at our latest find among the culinary establishments residing in the fair city of Green Hills. We live in Hendersonville and spend our date nights sampling restaurants we have never visited. Macke's is absolutely at the top of our list. Exquisite food and impeccable service highlighted our evening. The room was dimily lit with hints of Sinatra and white linen table clothes. Surprisingly the ambience was extremely romantic considering the restaurant is located above Gracie's mall. Jamie and the staff were very attentive and knowledgeable.
Pros: Food and service
Cons: location

This restaurant is a little hard to find but that is part of the wonderful adventure. My girlfriends and I ate lunch there last week and had the best food that can be found in this city. They have a new chef and their committment to fresh fish daily peaked all of our appetites. We were not disappointed. The food was incredible and the service was equally as great. We would highly recommend this restaurant. We have reservations for next week for our monthly dinner.
Pros: Fabulous Food
Cons: A little hard to find the first time but it is where you renew your license plates

My dining experiences at Macke's, several lunches and a dinner, have all been very enjoyable. The service each time has been prompt with a friendly wait staff. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the food is excellent. I ordered the special a few saturday nights back, a scallop dish, that was the best I think I've ever eaten. It was beautifully presented along with cheese polenta and green beans. Would love to see it added to the regular menu... I have recommended Macke's to several others, as it promises to be a very enjoyable and tasty experience.

I had high expectations for this restaurant after hearing a good review from a friend. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed by the food, the service, and the overall value. The service was probably the worst part of the experience. We had to wait almost thirty minutes to get our meals, and then another 30 minutes after we were finished before we finally got our checks. What was meant to be an hour lunch turned into a 2 hour and 15 minute ordeal. Meanwhile, our drinks sat empty and we did not receive any apologies for the delay. There were two well-behaved children in our party and the restaurant did not have any high-chairs for the kids, let alone any kid-friendly food. I ordered the ravioli entree, which was crunchy on the edges and very oily. It came with a limp salad, which I would have appreciate before the meal. Instead, it came along with the entree. The portions were small for the price and I had to request bread to augment the meal. The server acted like this was an unsual request and told me it would take 5 minutes to get bread. Needless to say, I won't be returning.

We continued our tour of nice eating establishments on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 with Macke's (I can't pronounce it either). I had heard the place was well hidden in the back of graces plaza in green hills so expected the search. Thank goodness I had heard that it was inside and upstairs or we may have missed it but fortunate for us we found it. AND, the food was wonderful. My wife and I will typically share one appetizer and one salad, each get an entrée and then share a nice dessert. This worked very well at Macke’s. We had the pear and blue cheese quesadilla as the appetizer and it was wonderful – almost large enough for a meal and so good we wanted to eat it all but knew it we did, we would not be able to complete the meal. The salad was just the right size – they split it for us and the combination of goat cheese, spinach, pine nuts and slightly sweet dressing was great. Our entrees were wonderfully prepared – she had the fresh salmon and I had the lamb. Our food was timely, well prepared and tasted great. The dessert – I am a push-over for key lime pie was a surprising alternative to the normal key lime pie – this example was well-prepared by the chef and was an extremely light take to the standard fare which we both enjoyed. I would highly recommend Macke’s as a venue if you have the chance. For the meal described above, expect to pay $100 but you could order less expensive entrees and get by for less. We also took sample of the bar and order a nice bottle of pinot noir which was obviously overpriced but I haven’t found a eatery in Nashville that will charge equitably for a bottle – they all have to make 300%. Overall, a wonderful evening and meal – also note they have a private that can seat approximately 12 which I will probably use the next time I have clients in.
Pros: Service and quality of the food
Cons: somewhat hidden which is not necessarily bad
