Great restaurant if you have the right server

My wife & I have been to Flyte several times and have always had a great dining experience. The food and ambiance are a winning combination on their own but it's the excellent service we've always received that had put Flyte at the top of our favorite restaurants lists. However, our last visit proved to be quite the exception. Joseph was our server and he seemed friendly enough at first but quickly changed gears when he realized we weren't going to be ordering expensive entrees and bottles of wine. He insisted my wife & I order the "chef's tasting" along with paired wines and that this would be a "superior dining experience." I don't normally go for high pressure sells tactics when I'm dining but the staff hadn't steered me wrong in the past, so I decided to trust our server. Once our order was in and the courses started to arrive, our server checked out on us. He didn't go over dishes, checked back on us rarely and even forgot 2 of the wine pairings!! I would have been somewhat understanding if he'd been busy with other tables but that wasn't the case & he actually got rude with me when I reminded him of the forgotten wines. The plain truth is, he was more interested in presenting us with a hefty dinner tab than providing a great dining experience. To add insult to injury, my wife & I realized we'd been duped when we took a menu home with us to study. Every one of our courses was on the menu and we were basically just charged more for having them split, and yes, the wines that were selected with each course were some of the most expensive on the wine list. I've done chef's tastings in restaurants all over the country and the courses are always "off menu." All of this was especially disheartening when compared to our past experiences. Come on Flyte, times are tough and diners have lots of options. You're better than this! I still strongly recommend Flyte. I also recommend you ask for Todd or Scott.
Quite expensive but still a great experience!

We recently met two other couples at Flyte and had a wonderful dinner there! Being a finicky eater of the highest order, I'd checked out the menu on their website beforehand and already planned what I'd order. That turned out to be a waste of time as the menu we were presented with wasn't nearly the same as the one they posted online. I ended up ordering the duck and it was great! Everyone raved about their chosen dishes. The chicken spring rolls were awesome and the onion soup was scrumptious. A word of warning: in the small print on the menu it states that they MAY add 20% gratuity for parties of six and over. Well, they did and it turns out that we were the only couple to notice it. The other two couples added gratuity on top of their already high bill and didn't discover it until we were all talking about how expensive, albeit tasty, dinner had been. Between the six of us we spent nearly $500. The way to go, if you're on a budget, is to choose from the Fylte Fixe menu... that's three courses for $35.00. Double that for a couple, add a couple of glasses of wine and you're looking at $100 plus tip. All in all, we're glad we went and we'll definitely return for a special occasion or what not.
- Pros: Fantastic food combinations
- Cons: Too pricey
Expensive, small portions for a Guy

We went with friends for my birthday. The wait staff were excellent, the food was very nice and very expensive. All three males in our party left hungry. The quality of the food was great, but not nearly enough to satisfy a guy with even an average appetite.
Enjoyable Landing at Flyte

Our foursome decided to check out Flyte on 1-12-08. First of all, I wouldn't classify the location of the restaurant as "seedy". Upon arrival we were greeted by a smiling friendly hostess who informed us our table would soon be ready. After a brief wait, we were escorted to our table.I found the decor of the restaurant tasteful, although, I certainly would not describe the place as romantic. Our waitress arrived shortly thereafter and we found her to be friendly, knowledgeable, and informative. She answered our many questions and provided us with some recommendations that we greatly appreciated, ie. the sauce on the chicken is "a little salty". We started with salads, I chose the Italy salad that was fresh with just the right amount of dressing and spice. My wife chose the Pecan Pie salad that she enjoyed immensly, with the others opting for the Flyte salad selection, (for an additional fee, you can sample all three of the salad selections) which they gave a thumbs up.Next the entrees, I chose the Colorado lamb which was beautifully presented, perfectly prepared and was very juicy and tasty. Two selected the pork loin and one stayed with the Flyte theme(entree selection). Everyone agreeded that the quality of the food was very good, and the preparation and presentation was better than average. One down side for me was the wine list. Most of the popular American vineyards were represented with wine by the glass available, however, there was a lack of French wine selections. But hey, I'm a wine snob, so you'll probably like the wine list. Desserts followed dinner with the creme brulee Flyte, and the apple tart with capuccinos. The desserts were light, sweet and the caps brewed perfectly. There are other restaurants in this category that I like better than Flyte, but there are also many that I don't like as well as Flyte. All in all it was an enjoyable dining experience and I would return.
Pros:food quality, friendly knowledgeable staff
Cons:alittle overpriced winelist
One small thing.

Having dinner with a group of business associates last night provided me with the most memorable meal I have had in Nashville.
The twice roasted duck with chantrelle risotto was a delight and set a new standard for me. The composition of the plate was, in a way, surprising because as I finished the last few bites I discovered two sauted chantrelles tucked under the rice. Christmas came early!
Everywhere I placed my fork provided me with a new delight.
Now for the one small thing.
Both times when I ordered a glass of wine; even the one recommended, the server informed me that it was an expensive glass. I thought that was an odd thing to say but laughed it off. The server had to have known the bill was being taken care of by the company since he was a friend of one of the guests.
I will send people to the restaurant ( I am in the hospitality industry ) because I know the food will "wow" them. But when they return I will be very interested in how they were served.
- Pros: culinary bravura, wine selection
Fun with the flites of wines

The space is great. My boyfriend and I even had what we thought was the best table in the house. The food was just not great, really not even good. None of the flavors worked well with each other. It was like a tasting that wasn't well thought out. We might go back for drinks but not a full dinner.
- Pros: Easy parking
