No Service

by hfmatt at Citysearch

I am a huge fan of supporting local restaurants and even giving them the benefit of the doubt when the experience is lacking. However, Flyte has the honor of my worst dining experience of all time. Perhaps this is because there was no dining experience. After being seated my girlfriend and I sat there for over 20 minutes without being greeted or acknowledged by anyone. There was no water, no I'll be with you in a moment - nothing. To add to this, I could count on one hand the number of tables who had patrons. There were multiple servers moving in and out of the kitchen and right by our table. Many of them often glanced at us however no formal greeting occured. Perhaps this was a simple miscommunication on the restaurants part as to who was responsible for our table or possibly this server was just plain busy but I did not stay to find out to see if they would finally greet us after 30 minutes. I truly felt like I was in some Seinfeld episode and the entire thing was a joke. It is incredible how far a simple greeting will go.

  • Pros: quickly seated
  • Cons: not greeted

Rip Off!!!!

I went to the website of Flyte before i came into town to visit my girlfriend. The site says that they offer a $35 Prix Fixe 3 course tasting menu that is availiable to everyone anytime the kitchen is open. Well guess what, the server had not even heard of that. I was then told that the Chef would pick a menu for us to have instead, we took them up on that offer and got some poorly thought out mess on a plate that ended up costing me $110. We got an app that consisted of 1 shrimp each, a salad flyte of three small salads that were not really all that great, and lamb portion that was on a full size plate and only covered about 1/8 of it. We also ordered a wine flyte for each of us and they only brought us one, and it didnt even have the wines listed on the menu with it. I have been taking part in tasting menu's for many years, and this was far from a tasting. I have no desire to return to Flyte or to offer a recomendation for anyone else to go there either. I feel that i got a very bad deal, when i paid $110 for a meal for 2 i should not be hungry when i leave.

Just Plain AWFUL!! And that is being NICE!

Addendum: The manager read my review, called my friend and wanted me to call him which I did. My food was comp'd and that is great! However my review still stands as is. Like I said before it wasn't the customer service I took issue with it was the food!

I went to Flyte on Friday evening for a birthday dinner. Let me make this clear our SERVER was GREAT!!! There was a group of 17-20 of us and everything was very prompt.

I started with the salad 5 leaves of lettuce and 4 grapes and star anise ice cream YUCK!

Next out came the chickpea battered cauliflower?the only flavor was pepper again YUCK! A friend ordered the soup flyte all 3 soups were horrible. The tomato basil tasted as if they opened a can of tomatoes and pureed them and said here its soup!

Ok now for my main entree the autumn vegetable plate. The BBQ'd pumpkin was char black on the outside and raw on the inside (Note: if you are going to bbq pumpkin you should parboil or roast it before hand) the butternut squash cake was served with a sauce the best way I can describe it was it left a FUNK taste in my mouth. I love quinoa and its very hard to mess up HOWEVER it must be seasoned and it wasn?t. It was so bad that I ordered a side of olive oil and sea salt to try and improve on the atrocious meal that was set before me. The glass of wine was fine, but not worth the $14 they charged for it. Before the meals arrived we were excited about dessert however after all was said and done no one had the heart to order one!

The meal that I ordered was totally meatless and tasteless and came to $63...had the food been good I wouldn?t have minded the price.

I began to wonder how they have managed to stay in business for so long then it dawned on me. Charge outrageous prices serve small portions and there you have it a recipe to stay in business. Out of the 17-20 of us 15 people were disappointed and VOWED never to return and to make sure to tell everyone we know never to go there!!!!!!!

  • Pros: The Server
  • Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE!

Extremely Bad Service

by LoveToEat1978 at Citysearch

A group of us went here recently for a birthday dinner. The server kept forgetting our drinks, brought my salad along with my entree, forgot the appetizer we ordered to share and also forgot someone's soup. A glass of white wine was served warm. So being a former server myself, I asked the guy what the deal was. He blamed the kitchen! The peculiar thing was that there were maybe 6 other tables of people in the whole place. There wasn't any excuse that could satisfy me -- I expected small portions and high priced food, but awful service has turned me off from Flyte forever. I wished we'd gone to Virago for sushi and martinis instead.

  • Pros: pretty decor, good lighting
  • Cons: service, food quality

Cannot believe this ranked #1 New Restaurant!

by dbarnes963 at Citysearch

6 of us went for a birthday dinner and all 6 vote thumbs down on service, food quality and ambience. The waiter had a chip on his shoulder and was combative with us several times regarding our selections and was scarce the rest of the evening. He also brought the wrong bottle of wine hoping we would not notice (a much more expensive bottle.) We thought this place was loud and ridiculously overpriced for average, forgettable food. Nashville has a much better restaurant a few blocks away in the same price group-- Watermark. Spend your money there on excellent food, service, and ambience.
