User Reviews for The Standard

I had the fish sandwich and sweet potato fries for lunch yesterday. Absolutely wonderful, I am going back with clients soon! Waiter was great, good service, but they ran out of diet coke.

Pros: delicious food

Cons: none that I could see

I had dinner recently at the Standard, and it was truly disappointing. While the atmosphere is great--the house is beautiful--the food was average and the menu was boring. The food was not bad, but for close to $30 per entree, I expected much higher caliber. My pork chop was dry, the crab cake was mostly breading, and most entrees had the same two side dishes offered. Again, all would be fine if you were eating at a chain restaurant, but not a place that clearly claims to be something more. While we were there, the new chef came out to a table of regulars and explained that he planned to totally overhaul the menu, which is good to hear, but I am concerned by his inability to prepare the current menu offerings well (particularly considering the current menu consisted of very basic dishes). I am curious to see what the new menu has to offer, but would hesitate to go back, and definitely would not go back at the dinner prices.

Pros: Ambience

Cons: Poor quality for the cost

Well, I don't really write reviews, but to have a server speak to me like I'm an idiot is plenty of motivation. I can deal with the fact that the sweet potato fries are frozen and a busy kitchen who burns my food, but you'd think that my waiter would have been polite. He obviously was in a rush, but to flat out tell someone that you "don't have time to deal with them right now" is a bit much. All I wanted was a check. Did he not want my money? Weird. A gentle, "I'll be back with that soon." would have sufficed. I tried to find a manager on the way out to tell them about our server, but I was informed that there was no one available. Double weird. The decor is nice, as long as you want to feel like your dining in your grandmother's house. Which is a decor style that does fit the historic home.

Pros: menu selection

Cons: service, meal preparation, lack of manager on site

Let's start out that The Standard was very comfortable for lunch the service was excellent, the food is of fresh fare, and everything was perfect. I can't wait to go for dinner sometime soon.

I've had wonderful service and great food at the Standard. The atmoshpere is nice and you can't find a better selection of food that is all delicious anywhere else. They also did a great job on my friend's wedding after party.

Try the crab cakes with creole mustard sauce. The Standard is the only place I know to get sweet potato fries (with chipotle dipping sauce.)

I LOVE The Standard! They have a sandwich called the Hot Brown that is amazing! They also have a Blackened Salmon that was the best Salmon I have ever had. The crab cakes are great, and so is the french dip. As you can see I love it, and go at least once a week. I look forward to them opening for dinner soon.

Pros: Service, and of course the Building

Cons: None

Not only is The Standard's atmosphere breathtaking but the food is incredible. The crab cakes are the best in Nashville and the crab bisque leaves you wanting another bowl. My friends raved about the chicken basil and pesto sandwich and sweet potato fries as well. The service was excellent even on a busy Friday and the owners even offer a tour of the historic building. Great for business lunches or a day out with the girls!

Pros: Ambience, Service

Cons: Parking

The Standard is just what Nashville has been looking for! Great food, great service, and Southern charm you just can't find anywhere else. The menu is diverse and great for groups. The building itself is worth the trip - don't forget to read all about it when you're there. I'd highly recommend it for business lunches, out-of-town guests, bridal luncheons, and special get-togethers.

Pros: Fabulous atmosphere and great service

My husband and I are always looking for new spots to eat! I dont think we will be looking any longer, this is by far rated one of our top favorite places to eat. The setting was beautiful, the service was great, and the food was superb. If you go you must try the crab cakes with the fabulous dipping sauce! My mouth is watering just thinking about the food. Go and check it out! I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Pros: the food

Cons: nothing
