After reading a June '08 review and hearing raves from friends, I made a point to visit the little bakery on Villa Place - Dulce Desserts. When I arrived, I was greeted by the owner who was in the middle of creating a memorable and unique groom's cake. She put down her pastry bag and invited me to look at a variety of her creations. She and her employees were so friendly and helpful. I selected a variety of cupcakes - banana split, vanilla, chocolate chocolate - to share with my family. (I have 2 boys.) We all agreed that the cupcakes were the BEST we'd ever enjoyed. These cupcakes are not to be swallowed in 2 bites. The richness of the cake combined with the lightness of the whipped icing make these cupcakes a gourmet delight! I like these folks and their creations so much that I brought an out-of-town guest to the bakery for an indulgence. She and I will be back with others in tow. Dulce Desserts is not just cupcakes. Their bakery goods and specialty cakes are works of art - delicious ones at that.
Pros: Service and quality of food

I tried calling on a Thursday about the possibility of getting a cake for Saturday. When I called, I said, "I realize this is short notice, but I'm looking for a cake for Sat". [Dulce] "That is short notice, but tell me what you were looking for". [Me] "Anything really". [Dulce] "Is it s special occasion?" [Me] "No, we just have some family around and I was looking for a nice dessert." [Dulce] "Oh, then you should just have our gourmet cupcakes." [Me] "well, OK, I guess I -" [Dulce] "Thank you, goodbye." Click. So, they *might* be able to make me a cake on two days notice if I had a special occasion, but if I don't have a good reason or a specific cake requirement, then I am relegated to cupcakes without further discussion? They left me with the impression that not all customers are created equal -- and maybe that is reality, but it's not good business to leave your "sub-standard" customer feeling that way. By comparison, on friday (now, 1 day notice) I called Sweet 16th and had a similar conversation until the cupcake line, at which point the person from Sweet 16th took a moment to look if there were any options for a short notice cake. And, as luck would have it, they found a chocolate cake for me. And now, my business is their's to lose.
Cons: poor customer service

Our daughter was married on May 23 and we had a small, family reception at Mere Bulles in Brentwood. None of us lives in middle Tennessee, but we made a trip there a few weeks before the wedding to get everything set. On a word-of-mouth recommendation, we visited Dulce Desserts and met with Juanita, the owner. She sold us. Within a few days of exchanging information, including a photo of the style of cake, we had our cake established. On the big day we arrived at the restaurant after the wedding and there sat the cake. Juanita had delivered it and used the hydrangeas that we had left for her to decorate it. It was lovely. But what about taste? Well, delicious hardly does this cake justice. It was a delightful and mouth-watering treat. European butter flavor (and she had stressed that she uses lots of butter), alternating icing on the layers of hazelnut cream and chocolate ganache, then the whole cake iced with buttercream and covered with fondant. Not fond of fondant, you say? Well, you haven't tried Juanita's fondant. It was excellent. We have a family of very good cake bakers and our matriarch was so impressed the we had to send her home with a couple of slices to savor. We simply cannot imagine another cake that would have been more satisfying for our baby daughter's wedding. Thank you Dulce Desserts. Thank you Juanita.
Pros: Outstanding flavor and appearance.

Juanita Rocks! Her creations are absolutely amazing and out of this world. Everything I have ever had from her bakery has been amazing. We have sampled quite a bit since we are getting our wedding cake from Dulce. We have ordered cakes, cupcakes, and a few pastries from her. Everyone who has sampled them has loved it! Her chocolate and hazelnut cake with her homemade chocolate buttercream will send through the roof it's that wonderful! She also makes her own caramel that she'll use in her cakes and cupcakes! We are so excited to see our wedding cake! Go to Dulce, you won't be disappointed!
Pros: Buttercream, Cupcakes, Chocolate oh my!
Cons: Not open 24 hours!

I was just recently the MOB for the first time (only daughter). We had so many recommendations for wedding cakes but after tasting Juanita's cakes at a Bridal Show we were sold. Meeting with her in person sealed the deal. Not only are her cakes and buttercream (UMMMMM!) fabulous, she worked so well with what we wanted and had great suggestions. The wedding cake was BEAUTIFUL and delicious. She worked out a monogram we requested and copied the lace from the wedding dress. The groom's cake (chocolate, chocolate, chocolate) was incredible and inhaled by the guests. The whole experience was great. This may have been my only wedding cake but if I ever need a special cake in the future I will get it from Dulce Desserts

I stumbled upon Dulce Desserts while exploring the growing Edge Hill area and thank god I did! I stopped in to look at the selection of tasty treats and ended up taking half a dozen of their cupcakes home to my wife. Many calories later we have become huge fans of Dulce and all of their made from scratch confections. My wife and I have used Juanita for three birthday cakes and have been always had a winner on our hands. Compared to other bakeries in the areas Dulce beats them all with taste as well as customer service.
Pros: Great taste, made from scratch, Made to order, friendly staff, great custom cakes
Cons: my expanding waste line

I first met Jaunita and her fabulous cakes when I was looking for a wedding cake for my May 2007 wedding. I must begin by saying I work for a high-end restaurant company so I have nortorious high standards for quality of ingredients and customer service. After first bite of Dulce's cake at a Bridal show, I was hooked I had never tried a cake quite like it rich, creamy, decadent but not overally sweet. After a weekend of craving more of her cakes I scheduled an appointment for my fiance and I to meet Jaunita, she accomodated our schedules completely and it felt like we were invited into her home. Before I could even try the chocolate icing my fiance ate the entire plate of cake he also could not believe the melt-in-your-mouth quality of Dulce's cakes. Jaunita told us of her passion for high quality ingredients how she made all of her cakes from scratch and even makes her own caramel and lemon curd. We were blown away, we fell in love with her ideas for our wedding, her cakes, her passion and her!! We obviously booked her, and our wedding and groom cakes were stunning in presentation and taste and her service was impeccable! I have also called on Jaunita in need of her desserts for other occasions (mostly cause I couldn't wait till my wedding to have that cake). I served her cupcakes at a dinner party, and my guests were speechless upon tasting her vast variety of delightful mini-cakes!! I recommend dulce de leche, my favorite flavor. I purchased a Berry Neapolitan for my boss's birthday and now he is a raving fan too! My favorite story however, is Jaunita was able to recreate for my parent's 20th wedding anniversary an exact replica of their very 1987-ish wedding cake, mauve frosting and all!!! The service is over the top, and the desserts simply can't be put in to words you must put them in your mouth!! Dulce is reminiscent of times gone by, when shop owner's knew their customer's names and took deep pride and passion in the products they served.
Pros: Amazing from scratch desserts!
Cons: None to be seen, unless you count the calories to my thighs! ahahah!!!

I just used Dulce for my wedding cake, booked months in advance. My original wedding venue which we had also booked months prior fell through two weeks before, so obviously we were scrambling and frantic. Our original venue had an indoor spot for the cake to be displayed, but the last minute venue was indoor/outdoor, with the cake having to be displayed either in an un-airconditioned historic mansion or outdoors under a tent. I relayed this information to Dulce, and was told that this would not be a problem, they understood my situation. Because of the frantic nature of getting a wedding for 180 pulled together in two weeks, there was a miscommuication between my wedding planner and Dulce. She thought the cake was supposed to be there at 3, but I had asked them to bring it at 5. Unbeknownst to me, she called and asked them to bring it at 3 which caused them to to rearrange their delivery schedule. Long story short, the cake arrived with a big rip on top, it was missing a key design element that I ~thought~ was supposed to be there, and the filling was wrong. Other than that, the cake was absolutely beautiful and tasted DELICIOUS. So after the wedding, I had no intentions of demanding money back or being irate. I simply emailed saying that a few things were wrong, just FYI. I received back a mile long email explaining in detail how my wedding was a huge inconvenience, how they should have charged me extra but didn't, how the design element had never been finalized or factored into the price, and that I had asked that the filing be on half the cake only. Actually, I had asked the cake flavor be different on different tiers, NOT the filling. Anyway, I think I was as polite as I could be with my original email, and I can't understand why a simple, "We're very sorry, there must have been a miscommunication," or something of the like wasn't the reply. I thought the owner was a lovely person upon first meeting, but I guess graciousness isn't her strong suit.
Pros: TASTE
Cons: poor customer service/problem resolution, poor attention to detail in orders

This is one of those hidden gems that you are sometimes scared to tell others about so that you can have all of the sweets to yourself. From the cookies, cupcakes, tarts, biscotti to the amazing cakes everything here has been wonderful -- I am especially partial to the individual coconut cream pies and the ginger snaps. Juanita and Maddeline always provide a smile which makes their european style treats all the more enjoyable.
Pros: Service, selection, taste
