Sushi is above average, but not the best in town
by illinismitty at Citysearch
I have been complaining for years that there was no place to get Sushi on this side of town, since we live in Hermtage. I thank my lucky stars that Taki has opened up. The inside is small and cozy, but very nice. Contemporary with all natural wood paneling. Looks are deceiving from the outside. Prices are fair. The sushi is decent, above average, but by no means the best in town. Either these other reviewers have not been to the right places, or just lack a sophisticated palate for sushi. I have eaten at most of the sushi restaurants in Nashville, and I travel around the country and have tried others. What you have here is good (not great) sushi that is worth a stop if you are on this side of town. You can also order take out, which works great for me since I have two young children
- Pros: Nice ambiance, friendly service
- Cons: Very small, and may not have seating on a busy night.
Sushi-Okay; Service and Love for Customers: Horrific!

So, I was already having a bad day & I thought getting Sushi would make me feel better. So, I walked in happy to be there & ready to make myself feel better. The sushi-maker, then rolls his eyes at me and huffs. I then just assumed he had a bad day and was stressed. Then the lady took my order like she was in a rush to get me out of there with no consideration that I was once a great-tipping regular.
I decided to ignore the terrible customer service and grabbed, what I was told to be my order. The owner then chases me out to my car and screams at me, humiliating me, because I took the wrong order. She goes back and gets my order and basically throws it at me! I said "thank you" very sarcastically and drove off.
It was byfar, the most condescending & horrible restaurant experiences I've ever had. Then to top it off, the sushi wasn't all that great either. You can go to KOI and get the same quality, more quantity, at $8 with a few extras. Taki, I think is trying to be a Sushi-exclusive but if your looking for top-quality sushi, go to Sakura. It's about the same price as Taki, but much better tasting.
Case and point: don't put yourself through going to Taki, they are hateful, nasty and have no appreciation for high-tipping loyal customers. I love Sushi more than anything but after this Saturday's experience, I'm never going back and I hope the owner reads this.
I created this account just to warn everyone.
- Pros: It's one in three sushi places in Hermitage
- Cons: Rude Owners!
Not the same Taki
by BNelson at Citysearch
My husband and I fell in love with this place when it opened. Jack and Kate were personable, the sushi was perfect, and the ambiance was pleasant. However, this has changed. They have moved back to New York, and sold this place. The new owners really don't have the same love for sushi and their customers that Jack and Kate did, and I'm sad to see them go. They left about a year ago, and the new owners let their toddler son run around the restaurant and outside in the parking lot. The menu is the same, but the quality sure isn't.
- Pros: Good location
- Cons: Jack and Kate are gone.
Nah, I'll Pass

I'm all about sushi, but not from here. The atmosphere made me feel I was eatting in a tiny dorm room with pin-ups of sushi all over the walls. Taki was guilty of one of my biggest dislikes- using the restaurant as a daycare. Not only was one of their children running around and hovering over another occupied table, I sat and watch a waitress shuffle a baby in a carrier from an empty table to the end seat of the sushi bar to make room for new diners. And if you want to discuss the food...The raw fish used in the rolls was warm, not nearly cold enough to be within health code regulations. The combination of ingredients was tasteless, a complete lack of imagination. The only thing it has going for it is that they deliver, if you live nearby.
- Pros: delivery
- Cons: daycare atmosphere
Something special in Hermitage
by seaheart at Citysearch
So, we have a lot of chain restaurants in Hermitage. Very disappointing to my husband and I who love to try unique resturants and ethnic cuisine. We do drive to Nashville, Green Hills, and Brentwood/Franklin when we want to try other restaurants, but it's annoying that if we want a quick bite here in town we mostly have chains or fast-food places only. So, we are really happy to have found Taki. It is really unassuming, tucked in a strip mall with Subway and a tanning salon. However, the small dining area is surprisingly nice with a small sushi bar and hardwood floors. The rolls are pretty good, and they have recently started to expand their menu to include more Thai/curry-type items. We are vegetarian and can find plenty of options. We are definitely regulars here, even our finicky 4 year old (and her 14 month old sister) really like the fried tofu and edemame. If only we could get some more local good eats!
- Pros: Good food, nice decor, it's right here in town!
- Cons: Service is adequate though not overly friendly
New Ownership definitely = disappointment
by xtinameadows at Citysearch
I agree mdavis98. Taki used to be one of my favorite restaurants. The sushi was the freshest around and they had some really unique entrees to round out the menu. All of the great entrees have either changed or disappeared and in their place mediocre Thai food has appeared. If I want Thai I'll go to the Royal Thai next to the Kroger. My favorite roll was the spicy scallop roll - not anymore.....The sushi is subpar now - too much mayo, the rice is different, and the fish doesn't seem as if it is as fresh. I hope these new owners get their act together. If they do I'll be back for delicious food - until then I'm going to Fulin's in Mt. Juliet.
New Ownership = Disappointment

I used to be a regular customer of Taki and once proclaimed it the "Best Sushi in Nashville" as many others have in this forum. I'm not sure why the old owners sold the place, but since the ownership transfer, the sushi has gone downhill. They've made subtle changes to many of the original rolls that have not helped. The rice is different as well, seems like bigger grains of rice which I'm sure cut costs by helping to make the rolls appear the same size by using less fish, etc.
Don't waste your time anymore. It's sad, this place used to be great. And thus, the search for a new sushi place begins.

I been eating for sushi for 13 years, it was the best sushi i ever have. The fish is so fresh you can see by the color, all the fresh cut fish right in from of you. ha ha my wife is not a sushi eater she try some of the pepper tuna and say honey i think i am in love with the pepper tuna. To bad that they dont have any uni over there, from what i hear from a friend their is always out after thursday night. Tonight i ask my wife where you want to go to dinner? my mife say taki and she say i really miss the pepper tuna over there and i am going to try something else tonight. O by the way did i metion the service over there was great.
- Pros: Thumbs up
Skip it- from a former regular
by foodiegal007 at Citysearch
i was a regular and at one time I would have agreed with most of the positive comments, although I never thought the staff were any friendly. However after being a regular customer for years and even bringing coworkers there are lunch, I will never eat at Taki again. I was given bad fish, bad raw fish a possible health concern, on purpose. Being a loyal customer, I called Taki thinking a mistake was made. After explaining the situation, they hung up on me. So I went back to Taki, hoping they would make things right. They quickly tossed the bad fish and screamed at me to get out. Never once did they dispute the bad fish or apologize or offer to make it right or offer anything. Now, if they treat their regular customers like this they cannot understand the value of customers or of quality food.
- Pros: none
Excellent Sushi!

Ha ha! We live only a mile from Taki! It's great. I never even liked sushi until I began eating here. My husband likes to try different things each time, but as for me, I'm stuck on their spicy salmon rolls add cucumber. Very good sushi, and prices are excellent.
