It's dirty but at least the sushi is bad!
by PantsPants at Citysearch
This place use to feel hip and fresh. I hadn't been in months and months and was shocked at how it had gone way downhill. The place was so filthy, the staff seemed bored and detached (and slow) and the sushi all had a vaguely samey samey taste. I had one piece of salmon the was fishy fishy gross. I don't think I could be talked into going back until it's under new management or new ownership.
- Pros: all you can eat
- Cons: bad sushi, uninterested staff, DIRTY restaurant and bathroom
Terrible Service

What happened to this place? We get to the door, it's not crowded at all and we wait while the hostess looks at us like we are bothering her. After finally being seated, we waited 15 minutes and NO ONE came to our table. There were more people working in there than eating so I don't understand the problem. We finally left and I advised the guy at the cashier stand what happened and he just said "OK???" I call and ask for the manger, KENT, well, he couldn't come to the phone because he was going on a break??? I called back today and they couldn't tell me when he was expected to be in. WOW---there are so many people that need jobs????
Don't waste your time or money

What a huge disappointment! First impressions are important, and upon walking in, you are in the way of those cruising the buffet while standing there waiting for a table. The service was awful. We had to flag someone down after sitting there for 10 minutes totally ignored just to get some water. We had the lunch buffet, and the sushi was horrible. Everything had way too much rice, and while there was a pretty large variety, everything looked the same, there were too many fried rolls, and there was no nigiri style sushi at all. The music was so loud and annoying you felt like you were at a rave in a night club, not a restaurant. We will never go back. I've spent the last 3 hours eating gum, mints, or anything just to get the horrible taste out of my mouth and nothing is working! Save yourself the disappointment. There are too many good sushi places to even bother giving Rusans a try.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Horrible service, very loud music, tight seating
Affordable Prices but Horrible Customer Service

I have been to Rusan's twice. The first time the service was mediocre; the second time it was horrible. Not only did the server get my order wrong, but when I attempted to correct her she refuted me. Finally I was able to get the "sweet potato tempura" I ordered. Not once did the server come by after I order came out to ask how we were doing. Our drink orders were only refilled when the server brought the check to us!
To top it off my friend''s requests were blatantly ignored. He ordered the Asian Tiger Beef. While he didn't have a problem with eating "marinated rare beef", he didn't know the dish was served cold. After one bite, he asked the server if he could send it back and order something else. She refused. He spoke with the manger who also refused. When my friend pointed out that the menu didn't say the dish was served cold. The manager responded: " You should have asked the server BEFORE you ordered." Then my friend asked if they could simply warm the beef up. His request STILL was refused. I have worked in a restaurant before and have never had such an experience as this one where the customer was treated as if his/her opinions and requests did not matter.
I give this restaurant four stars in making customers feel lousy and wishing they had spent their money elsewhere in this rough economic times. I guess its true what they say: You get what you pay for.
Average food, terrible service

I ate at Rusans with two of my friends. The food is cheap, but the service was terrible. The waitress was rude and when she got one of my friend's order wrong, she acted as if my friend was at fault. I did not mind so much that the waitress got the order wrong, but attempting to blame it on my friend is despicable service. When we asked to see the manager, he automatically took the waitress's side. Eat here if you want cheap, average food, but do not expect the waiters to be polite.
- Pros: cheap
- Cons: terrible service
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!
by Brian47 at Citysearch
I went to Ru San's for the first time on my birthday (July 2009). There were two fire trucks outside in the street with their lights on. We went in, were seated, and placed our orders. The waitress came back after bringing us our drinks and said that they couldn't serve us anything cooked. Turns out the fire department shut their entire kitchen down that night. There were employees standing on the stove tops/griddles cleaning massive heaps of grease off the vents above. The waitress knew what was going on, but didn't tell us until AFTER we placed our orders. So the noodles, soup, etc that we wanted was a no go. Why weren't we told BEFORE we ordered? The sushi wasn't all that good either. Sloppily rolled, too much rice. Overall a very dissapointing experience! There are many other fine Japanese restaurants in Nashville (try Hanabi in Brentwood) that serve good, fresh food and have great customer service. Ru San's isn't in that catergory.
- Pros: very little
- Cons: a lot
um... no

I go for quality vs. quantity. I've been to this place three times and have learned not to come back. The lunch buffet is not all it's cracked up to be; the rolls are poorly made (on a few of the rolls all that was inside was cream cheese with a piece of fish stuck on top) and though it looks like there's lots of different rolls they're all pretty much the same. Stay away and spend your money elsewhere.
- Cons: Sushi is poor quality
Epic Fail.

I have tried this restaurant three times so far.
The first time, I tried one of their sushi combos with all kinds of crazy rolls (POwer Builder Combo I think it was). The rolls were very odd and not too good at all. One of the rolls was even entirely deep fried! So much for healthy japanese food.
The second time, I opted for the ramen noodles. BIG MISTAKE. The noodles I ordered were intriguingly named Tokyo Shoyu Ramen, and I expected something along those lines. Perhaps not as good as noodle shop in the streets of Shibuya, but something in the same ballpark. The noodles tasted somehow just like Chinese food. They must have simply had a Japanese friend go through their menu and put authentic names, then decided to make the dish whatever they feel like.
The third time, I tried some plain old Nigiri sushi and some rolls. The Nigiri was quite good, and the fish seemed of good quality.
If you have to eat here, the nigiri is a safe bet. Don't try anything else. This is not authentic Japanese food by any sense of the word.
Don't go for the lunch buffet!

Now, I wouldn't expect a sushi buffet to be spectacular for 10 bucks, but I can generally get an idea for the overall quality of sushi from their free-for-all offerings; it'll be lower quality but not by too much. The lunch sushi was horrible. The knifework was poor, the rice was dry and cracked, the sushi vinegar mixture was not done correctly. I haven't ordered off the menu, but if their lunch is any indicator, don't bother!
- Pros: i didn't get sick
- Cons: bad food, inattentive waitstaff
Not a Good Experience
by pinkmelody at Citysearch
I felt like this restaurant was so bad I had to comment. The food is not all that it's cracked up to be. The sushi was terribly prepared and the quality was not good. Everytime I tried to pick up the sushi, it fell apart. Not to mention that it just didn't taste good. I will not be recommending this to a friend. In fact, I will be letting them know not to go here. And the icing on the cake is that if you don't like what you ordered, you still have to pay for what you didn't eat. I ate all of 2 of the 10 pieces I ordered and had to pay for all of it. And the waitresses explanation was that the owners were "TOO CHEAP" to take anything off. It just wasn't good!
- Pros: location
- Cons: everything else
