I used to go to the Ru San's in Charlotte, NC and it was fantastic. When I moved to Nashville and found out there was one here I was sadly disappointed to find the service was beyond sloppy, and the food forgotton about on the counter.

Numerous times myself and/or friends have gone there only to be forgotten about by the server. One group sat for 45 minutes after getting waters for their server to come back and take their order. Even trips to the manager didn't rectify the situation. They left.

They have charged my credit card twice for the same meal on too many occasions.

Very disappointing.

Me and my boyfriend went here for some after work Sushi and what a great place. We sat at the Sushi bar and the Chef kept giving us free samples of things he was making and was very helpful in choosing off of their huge menu. The prices are right too. For both of us with drinks it was under 35 dollars which is great. The waitstaff seems a little unknowledgeable but if you sit at the bar the chefs are spot on!

  • Pros: Sushi, Price
  • Cons: Waitstaff Sometimes Unknowledgeable

I have been living in Nashville since 2005. Ru San's has often been my place of choice to take friends who either like or have never tried Sushi before. Well... It used to be.

Last 3 times I have been there, basically anything with rice comes with way too much rice. The place is so busy that they are getting very careless with the food, and are pushing out very low quality rolls. Don't get me wrong, the Sushi idea they have there has always been spot on, but the quality went down the drain. I don't know what is good in this place anymore. Except for the appetizers and Tataki portions, because the rest has gone to ***.

  • Pros: Atmosphere, Prices, Variety, Location
  • Cons: Service and Food Quality

Living on a budget these days, Ru Sans has been the answer to my fiance's and my prayers! $10 all-you-can-eat sushi for lunch is good enough, but add the selection of hot foods like orange chicken, fried rice and tempura and you have an all-out deal!! We love Ru Sans :) Been there for dinner too, and it's of course, just as good then, but you can't beat the lunch price!

  • Pros: Great lunch buffet!!! Delicious food
  • Cons: Atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired, and dinner can be a little pricey

They don't have fountain drinks, just canned sodas. The music seems like it would be more fitting for a young girl's clothing store than a restaurant. The sushi is no where close to Wild Wasabi, Koto's or Sam's. I prefer quality to quantity.

  • Pros: location
  • Cons: no fountain drinks, annoying music, weird atmosphere

I held Rusan's to very high standards because Nashville Scene readers rated them #1 Sushi Bar, and I had read many rave reviews about them, but one thing that didn't dawn on me was though they were rated #1 for the food, food does not include customer service in the rating.

Once in the restaurant, there was no host/hostess. Fortunately the bartender wasn't too occupied and spoke to us and said it would be about 10 minutes, but it took that amount of time for us to be greeted by anyone to be seated. Once we were seated, it took about 20 minutes for the waiter to come around and ask us what we wanted. I didn't even know they had Coke products to offer, but I guess that's what I get for not asking. The sushi tasted amazing! Their sushi is the best I have ever tasted. They also have a great selection with great price ranges too! It was my friend's birthday and she had a "Happy Birthday" balloon tied onto the back of her chair, and without even telling or mentioning to the waiter it was her birthday, he just brought her out dessert and sung her happy birthday (free of charge).

though the customer service wasn't that great, the food was amazing!

  • Pros: food, trendy area, nice setting
  • Cons: service

On Saturday, September 20th, my finance and I went to Ru San's at 11:20pm and we were told by a server that they were closed. We stated that the door said that the closing time was midnight, and the server told us that business was slow that evening and they closed early. Although the front tables in the window were empty and dirty, the back of the resturant was full of people. The bartender did say to the server that the open sign was still on, the server did not respond. We even offered to get our order to go, and the server refused to take the order. He stated to us that it was late and "people have kids they are trying to get home to." We left, and the open sign was still "on". Needless to say we were very disappointed, we often eat at this resturant and enjoy it. And we do understand if we came in at 10 minutes before closing, that this server would be upset, but coming in 40 minutes before and being denied even a takeout order, just did not seem the right thing to do. My suggestion would be make sure you go early, apparently people that work there children stay up until after midnight waiting for them to come home!

  • Pros: Good food
  • Cons: Service is unpredictable

First off, most complaints I've seen say they wanted their food for free because they obviously had no idea what they were ordering... so you guys think you can go to McDonalds order a bigmac and then hand it back saying "I really don't care for this, what else you got?"??? All your reviews should be tossed out and not counted honestly. The selection at this restaurant is absolutely huge. I used to go to Omikashi/Wasabi in my building but this place is 100 times better. Just about everything you could want is on the bar, sushi, rolls, a few hot items, etc. Great buffet for lunch! I would agree the service is a little lacking... but it's a BUFFET! Biggest gripe I would have is if you order a soda you get a canned drink, and refills are not free. I generally get water, or hot tea. You really should try this once, but don't order something you are not sure about... that's common sense! Unless you are willing to go with a group and swap out items if someone gets something they don't like.

  • Pros: Huge selection, no rush atmosphere
  • Cons: costs for soda refills, service a little lacking

I have tried this restaurant three times so far.

The first time, I tried one of their sushi combos with all kinds of crazy rolls (POwer Builder Combo I think it was). The rolls were very odd and not too good at all. One of the rolls was even entirely deep fried! So much for healthy japanese food.

The second time, I opted for the ramen noodles. BIG MISTAKE. The noodles I ordered were intriguingly named Tokyo Shoyu Ramen, and I expected something along those lines. Perhaps not as good as noodle shop in the streets of Shibuya, but something in the same ballpark. The noodles tasted somehow just like Chinese food. They must have simply had a Japanese friend go through their menu and put authentic names, then decided to make the dish whatever they feel like.

The third time, I tried some plain old Nigiri sushi and some rolls. The Nigiri was quite good, and the fish seemed of good quality.

If you have to eat here, the nigiri is a safe bet. Don't try anything else. This is not authentic Japanese food by any sense of the word.

I can't understand those people who commented negative here but you know if I was you just check the place and you will not forget the place and the quality of the food. Someone said here to sit in the bar and I sat at the very front of the bar in which it was so fun chatting with the knolegable chef that explains almost the whole menu to me because I was so picky on foods but as soon as he knows what fish I wanted he narrowed it for me which helps me alot. He made all my sushi and gave me the most unforgettable bday of my life. He even let me dance on the bar because it was my birthday, and take note they let me shake my behind ...just one recommendation: sit at the bar and find Chef Nelson and he will do the rest and makes your day.

  • Pros: Top food, Best Chef
  • Cons: Unproffessional Hostess, Alright service
