On Saturday, September 20th, my finance and I went to Ru San's at 11:20pm and we were told by a server that they were closed. We stated that the door said that the closing time was midnight, and the server told us that business was slow that evening and they closed early. Although the front tables in the window were empty and dirty, the back of the resturant was full of people. The bartender did say to the server that the open sign was still on, the server did not respond. We even offered to get our order to go, and the server refused to take the order. He stated to us that it was late and "people have kids they are trying to get home to." We left, and the open sign was still "on". Needless to say we were very disappointed, we often eat at this resturant and enjoy it. And we do understand if we came in at 10 minutes before closing, that this server would be upset, but coming in 40 minutes before and being denied even a takeout order, just did not seem the right thing to do. My suggestion would be make sure you go early, apparently people that work there children stay up until after midnight waiting for them to come home!

Pros: Good food

Cons: Service is unpredictable

First off, most complaints I've seen say they wanted their food for free because they obviously had no idea what they were ordering... so you guys think you can go to McDonalds order a bigmac and then hand it back saying "I really don't care for this, what else you got?"??? All your reviews should be tossed out and not counted honestly. The selection at this restaurant is absolutely huge. I used to go to Omikashi/Wasabi in my building but this place is 100 times better. Just about everything you could want is on the bar, sushi, rolls, a few hot items, etc. Great buffet for lunch! I would agree the service is a little lacking... but it's a BUFFET! Biggest gripe I would have is if you order a soda you get a canned drink, and refills are not free. I generally get water, or hot tea. You really should try this once, but don't order something you are not sure about... that's common sense! Unless you are willing to go with a group and swap out items if someone gets something they don't like.

Pros: Huge selection, no rush atmosphere

Cons: costs for soda refills, service a little lacking

I have tried this restaurant three times so far. The first time, I tried one of their sushi combos with all kinds of crazy rolls (POwer Builder Combo I think it was). The rolls were very odd and not too good at all. One of the rolls was even entirely deep fried! So much for healthy japanese food. The second time, I opted for the ramen noodles. BIG MISTAKE. The noodles I ordered were intriguingly named Tokyo Shoyu Ramen, and I expected something along those lines. Perhaps not as good as noodle shop in the streets of Shibuya, but something in the same ballpark. The noodles tasted somehow just like Chinese food. They must have simply had a Japanese friend go through their menu and put authentic names, then decided to make the dish whatever they feel like. The third time, I tried some plain old Nigiri sushi and some rolls. The Nigiri was quite good, and the fish seemed of good quality. If you have to eat here, the nigiri is a safe bet. Don't try anything else. This is not authentic Japanese food by any sense of the word.

I can't understand those people who commented negative here but you know if I was you just check the place and you will not forget the place and the quality of the food. Someone said here to sit in the bar and I sat at the very front of the bar in which it was so fun chatting with the knolegable chef that explains almost the whole menu to me because I was so picky on foods but as soon as he knows what fish I wanted he narrowed it for me which helps me alot. He made all my sushi and gave me the most unforgettable bday of my life. He even let me dance on the bar because it was my birthday, and take note they let me shake my behind ...just one recommendation: sit at the bar and find Chef Nelson and he will do the rest and makes your day.

Pros: Top food, Best Chef

Cons: Unproffessional Hostess, Alright service

Now, I wouldn't expect a sushi buffet to be spectacular for 10 bucks, but I can generally get an idea for the overall quality of sushi from their free-for-all offerings; it'll be lower quality but not by too much. The lunch sushi was horrible. The knifework was poor, the rice was dry and cracked, the sushi vinegar mixture was not done correctly. I haven't ordered off the menu, but if their lunch is any indicator, don't bother!

Pros: i didn't get sick

Cons: bad food, inattentive waitstaff

We went on a "double date" during the week based on a friend-of-a-friend's recommendation. The style was a fairly standard urbanish feel and the music was a little too loud. If you like a lot of choices and you're not picky, looking through their extensive menu(s) might be a good time...but since I know what I like, and couldn't find it amongst the 500 options, I tried to describe it to the waitress...but she was way to slammed to give personalized service (it took us over 15 minutes to get greeted.) The staff smiled and was polite, but we weren't wowed by any aspect of it. Its probably better suited to a group of friends who are easy to please and love sharing to try new things. I'm pretty picky, so check it out and, prove me wrong, and then talk about how cranky the girl who wrote the review must be;)

Pros: selection, relaxed style, trendy

Cons: too much selection, loud, very slow service

Im from out of town and I had a conference here in nashville and I heard this place was good so I tried. I went on a Saturday night and the place was packed. I sat in the bar coz I was alone but I was surprise that a chef could talk to me and he is good I mean really good coz he entertained me so good and served me with his specials he said ( wich is out of the menu). Food was so GREAT, fresh fish and THE PLACE WAS FUN. Just when you go there I recommend for you to stay at the sushi bar and sit at Chef Nelson ( if that was his right name he gave me) and ask for his specials

Pros: mbience,friendly chef Nelson

Cons: Parking, ok service

I went to this restaurant for the first time tonight. I will probably not return. The Flying Kamikazi Maki was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. The Banana Boat Maki was gross. The rolls fell apart, so it was hard to get the full taste. Be careful with what you order at this place because if you order something you don't like, you still have to pay for it and you can not order anything else in its place...restaurant policy. When it comes to sushi, I'll stick to Virago and Sonobana.

Pros: Quick service

Cons: Quality of food

I felt like this restaurant was so bad I had to comment. The food is not all that it's cracked up to be. The sushi was terribly prepared and the quality was not good. Everytime I tried to pick up the sushi, it fell apart. Not to mention that it just didn't taste good. I will not be recommending this to a friend. In fact, I will be letting them know not to go here. And the icing on the cake is that if you don't like what you ordered, you still have to pay for what you didn't eat. I ate all of 2 of the 10 pieces I ordered and had to pay for all of it. And the waitresses explanation was that the owners were "TOO CHEAP" to take anything off. It just wasn't good!

Pros: location

Cons: everything else

If you need a quick bite for lunch, this is the spot. The lunch buffet is fantastic! Who would have thought that a sushi buffet could be good. There are some rolls that are so-so, but for the most part, you are getting a great deal for lunch. Also, I would recommend ordering the seaweed salad with the buffet.

Pros: Cheap, Fast Lunch

Cons: Not the best sushi you're ever going to have, Very loud, slow service

Noisy and trendy locale's extensive sushi menu is only outdone by its upbeat setting.  See the full editorial review.
