Steady Decline

My husband and I used to love the place when we were first dating. We hate it now. The service is bad and the food isnt as good. I have fond memories. Even the brunch has gone to the dogs. With all the restaurants and development popping up in hendersonville they had better get their acts together before they find even more empty tables and booths then they are seeing now!
I wouldn't go back

I ate at Black Eyed Pea once, and I wouldn't go back. I am not a picky eater, but there wasn't anything on the menu that caught my eye. I ended up getting Shepherd's Pie, which was o.k. The service was very slow. The place was not busy at all, but it took forever for the waitress to bring our drinks and appetizer. When we finally got our appetizer, our dinner arrived literally 30 seconds later.
- Pros: Food was ok
- Cons: Slow service
Terrible Service, okay food

This past Sunday was our last visit to the Black Eyed Pea. The brunch is ok but the service has declined to such an unfriendly atmosphere that we feel more like an imposition than welcomed guests. Waiting for utensils just to butter our bread - or a simple plate on which to place the bread has become a common occurance. Ketchup is no longer offered - we have to request it only to receive an empty bottle followed by an additional request for another bottle, which is almost as empty as the first. This past Sunday, our waitress never cracked a smile, nor engaged us in any conversation - period. Our little girl spilled her drink. Her assistance included dumping the spill onto the floor and making us wait for several minutes for someone to clean up spill, which was right at our feet. Instead of replacing our napkins with the customary dinner napkins, we were given cocktail napkins to use...and I had to ask for this. She treated us as if she was doing US a favor by simply waiting on us.With the stiff competition just around the corner, the management either needs to get a clue or prepare to close it's doors. O'Charley's, Cheddars, etal are all too happy to take our money and offer great service in return.
- Pros: Easy parking, no wait
- Cons: Poor Service, Unfriendly Servers
Poor service.

I was stopping in to have the Pea Signature Salad with broiled chicken once a week which was my favorite of all green salads. Lately an older woman with a very stern look has been my server who usually answers my questions with a very short quip. She only comes by to check on me at the end of my meal when she delivers the check. By that time I've been without drink for quite a long time. Also, I've noticed that every time I eat a salad that she has served, my stomach becomes upset with some digestive problem. There was a time when I stopped in for another Pea Signature Salad with broiled chicken during this period which was served by a very nice young lady that gave excellent service and I experienced no health problems. I haven't eaten in this restaurant in several weeks and have had no more digestive problems.
- Pros: None.
- Cons: Poor service & quality of food.
Gone down hill

A year ago I'd have told you this was one of the best places to eat. The menu had something for everyone, they made the items fresh and onsite, the staff was friendly and efficient and the portions left you more than satiated.
What a difference a year makes.
We ordered beverages (water & tea), stipulating "no lemon" and yet the server brought a cup of lemons, "in case we changed our minds". One might find that "thoughtful", unless one realized that those who request NO lemon do so because they don't like even the smell...
As the drinks were delivered, the server asked for our dinner order and we asked if we could order the spinach dip appetizer, which arrived cold and watery. An apologetic manager promptly brought a new one but it was no better. He stated that they were having trouble with the microwave and how they didn't make it there, etc. I thought it was made fresh and onsite.
All entrees were delivered hot and fresh and were quite satisfactory, but the portions have very, very obviously been reduced. Literally in the middle of our meal, our server stopped by and asked if we wanted any To Go boxes.
We quickly finished, asked for boxes and he then left the check. Our guest asked if we were being kicked out, another asked if we were allowed to order dessert and the server quickly rattled down the list.
I asked about the "Sugar Free Cheesecake" on the menu and he said if was "No Sugar Added", I'm not sure of the difference. He asked what kind of topping we wanted. I said that if we had topping, it wouldn't be Sugar Free any more. We also ordered two Cobblers.
The "Sugar Free" Cheesecake tasted very nice, but the crust was a crumbly dust. The Cobblers, were more disappointment, especially since they are usually a house specialty, with a crust (cobbler)that was not much more than undercooked pot-pie crust, and rather gross.
Don't look for me at this place any time soon, I'll probably be at Cheddar's.
- Pros: Easy to find empty tables
- Cons: Poor service, inconsistent
a meat n three with beer

What's the allure of this place. It's basically a meat n three that serves beer. What a concept. The food's not bad but service can be spotty. I'm rarely this desperate.
