EXCELLENT and AUTHENTIC Thai

by PeaceJennifer

Chlay's is EXCELLENT Thai food and I have been a faithful customer of theirs for the last 4 years since I moved to Franklin from Boston. I eat here with friends on a regular basis, and we love it! My favorite dish is the Pad Thai (with shrimp) and their coconut soup. I also love their Thai dumplings. I may not be Asian, but I did live in Thailand as a student. I know what real Thai food is supposed to taste like. Chlay's is the REAL thing. *********************** In response to a previous reviewer: I worked in the food service industry as a college student, and anyone else who has would know that there are "those" customers who can NEVER be pleased. You also learn to have some sympathy for restaurant workers, rather than degrading them after one mediocre experience. Maybe you should have talked directly to the management or chef? I think the last reviewer's username speaks volumes about them. If you're going to be so picky and snobbish, you might as well eat at home. Finally, tell me since when were SoCal, the Bay Area, and DC renowned for their Thai cuisine? Haha.... pleeeease. Grow up, travel some more, and get some manners.

  • Pros: AUTHENTIC, Low Prices, Friendly, Lots of Parking
  • Cons: No problems

Below Average

by PickyEaterTN

I decided to try Chlay's after having seen a coupon in myClippers magazine and reading some reviews here. I know what i'm talking about when I say that Chlay's is below average for Thai food. I'm Asian so I know what Thai food should taste like having lived in LA, Orange County, DC, San Diego, San Jose. I have been to several Thai restaurants here in the Nashville area and they were all better than Chlays'

We ordered Fried Rice for the kids, I order my usual Pad Thai to test the authencity of Thai food and the misses ordered Pad Sa Eew (noodles with broccoli and chicken). When the food came I noticed right away that it did not look like what Thai food is suppose to look like. The Pad Sa Eew was dark in color and very soggy. It was supposed to be Yellowish Brown and have stirred fried eggs in there. Then the Fried Rice was also the same color and very soggy. And my Pad Thai was also soggy.

Everything tasted overly sweet. Then my wife and I noticed that the Pad Sa Eew and the Fried Rice tasted the same and our conclusion was that they used the same base sauce. The waitress came over and asked how things were. So I told what Thai food should be like, not soggy like this and so sweet. Her response was "The falang (white people) seems to like it". The reason it was soggy was because they didn't used oil to cook it. Instead of asking me if I would like it to be recooked, she just walked away.

If you want to eat Thai Food these are the ones I would recommend these three: Lemongrass Sushi and Thai in Bellevue and Murfreesboro, Jasmine in Brentwood and Basil in Franklin on Carothers. DON'T even try Thai Spices, Royal Thai or Peters. I would rate Peter's as bad and Chlay's.

Have a good one...

  • Pros: Portion are large
  • Cons: Unauthentic, very fast food like

Best Coconut Chicken Soup around!!

by franklingirl04

Chlay is such a unique find. The service is wonderful. The owner will pay a great deal of attention to you and if you are a frequent visitor, she remembers what you ordered the time before. The food is delicious! Our favorite, that we order everytime, is the coconut chicken soup. Outstanding! The food is consistently good. There aren't any surprises. The atmostphere is quite and pleasant. We probably eat at Chlay about twice a month. Don't be detoured by the location...in the strip center in front of Kroger. It is definitely worth checking out!!

Stay away from the tom ka kai soup

by ehhwolfe

I like this restarant--it's clean and has very decent prices on food. My only issue is their tom ka kai soup--it's such a huge dissappointment. It's my favorite thai dish, and since I don't care for their version (I've tried it several times), I've stopped going there. Several of my friends feel the same way. Since they do such a poor job on a very traditional dish, it's difficult to get past that.

  • Pros: great service
  • Cons: tom ka kai soup

So Good!

by talon139

This is the best Thai food ever! I eat at this place at least once a week! I've tried just about every dish, and I love them all, especially the Broccoli stirfry and the Green Curry. The service is great, as well!

A real gem!

by khakidog

This is my wife's favorite Thai restaurant and one of her top two restaurants. The food is amazing and the prices fantastic. I love their soft music that always results in a relaxing evening. This is the place to go at anytime, especially a Friday night after a tough day at the office. Thai food is also great for those on a diet! Few fares can offer amazing flavors with very little fat - assuming you choose the right dish. We LOVE this place and want them to succeed.

  • Pros: Great prices, Great flavors, relaxing atmosphere
  • Cons: too few patrons

Authentic

by melanosh41

I am a vegetarian and there are very few places I usually eat. They have seafood and meat dishes though for you meat eaters. This is also the only Thai restaurant in the downtown Franklin area right now and I love it. The food is wonderful, fresh as another user stated because I am very picky about that, and not cheap but very reasonably priced for quality food. The restaurant is very clean and elegantly decorated. Broaden your tastebuds and give this place a try. Its in Independence square off hillsboro.

  • Pros: *Delish* Food

Chlay's is a BIG surprise

by mwaylett

We only recently discovered this fantastic little restaurant after seeing a review in Williamson AM. Don't let the strip mall location keep you away! It is the best Thai food I've had in middle Tennessee. The quantities are large (unlike it's Cool Springs competitors) and the prices are low (also unlike their competitors). It is pristinely clean and has a much more pleasant atmosphere than the outside would indicate. We will be weekly visitors. They open in 35 minutes, I think we will go right now........

A great Franklin restaurant

by franklinctysearch

In Franklin and Coolsprings, let's face it.... its HARD to find a real restaurant where the food is made freshly -as in 'after you order it' and not from a bunch of additives or frozen stuff. I was most suprised to find Chlay's Thai Diner tucked away in Independence Square and decided to give it a try. Here are the results after my two visits: A clean restaurant with yummy *non-oily* Thai food, hand-and-foot service, very reasonable prices, large menu (also one for kids), and a unique addition to the current cuisine offered in the downtown Franklin vicinity. Conclusion: Chlay's has my vote over their local competitors for food quality and value... I will be a repeat customer.

  • Pros: Inexpensive, Clean, Good parking
