Miss Mary is an incredible instructor; professional, attentive, flexible, knowledgeable The past two years that I have been with the Nashville Irish Step Dancers has truly been a joy. I have been in the “Advanced” class with several other adults, and I absolutely love Miss Mary’s attitude towards adult dancers: she believes that we *CAN* dance, and she lets us go at our own pace, allowing us to not compete in feisanna (Irish Dance competitions) and enjoy Irish dance as a recreational sport. Miss Mary has mastered being able to be supportive, encouraging, and strict without pushing us beyond what we’ve asked for, and she is always receptive to ideas and understands and accommodates personality and learning differences with her students. Her staff of more experienced dancers are wonderful teachers, talented and experienced in their own right, the teenagers are gifted teachers (and if you are in the Irish dance community, you know what a blessing this is!) Miss Mary also does not rely solely on her assistants to teach – she directs the class herself, and uses her assistants when she needs specific students to perfect a skill through one-on-one attention. Her prices are great, and like a gym membership, we pay quarterly. Also, unlike a previous Irish dance instructor I have taken from, Miss Mary is very fair and genuinely has the girls’ and boys’ best interests at heart, focusing on bettering them as dancers and individuals, promoting unity and never allowing cattiness or foul play, never pitting the dancers against each other, and always being a positive role model. She also is unique in that she never lets her own ego get in the way of her teaching, and the organized, professional, and fair way of running her dance school has truly made all the difference for me.
