Salon Yaya is everything a salon should be and more.
by HappyToBeAlive at Citysearch
Salon Yaya really cares about its customers. Ever since I walked in there over a year and a half ago, I have always felt right at home. I really enjoy the great way I am treated there. Everyone that I see in there is treated like a good friend, and the staff is like a family. As soon as you walk inside, David offers you coffee or bottled water. The owner, Marylin, remembers everyone's name. My stylist, Keri-Lyn is the best stylist I have ever had. She truly listens to what you want, and she always has great new ideas for styles. The salon is affordable, friendly, comfortable, positive and good at what they do. What else can you ask for? I wholeheartedly recommend Salon Yaya on 21st Avenue!
- Pros: Friendly staff, great prices, superb haircuts, warm ambience.
- Cons: Parking is a little tough.
You Will Love This Place!

When I moved to TN one of my fears was finding a new stylist. I had been going to the same person for years and was terrified to try anyone else. After a couple of failed “relationships”, someone recommended Courtney at Salon Ya Ya. I have never looked back!
Courtney is a rock star when it comes to color! I absolutely LOVE what she does with my hair. My highlights are always beautiful and by some form of magic, her cuts always manage to give my straight, fine hair some lift and body (a near impossible feat).
I would recommend Salon Ya Ya to anyone. You will love the intimate, friendly atmosphere and with every stylist having such a wonderful personality, no matter who you see, you will be sure to enjoy your experience.
See y'all soon!
- Pros: Educational, attentive, friendly, honest
- Cons: None
Fantastic Stylist
by Davisgrl3 at Citysearch
I had a terrible experience at another well-known, high-priced salon in town and came to Salon Ya-Ya due to a referral from a friend. I visited Keri-Lyn and she was super understanding and took tons of time to explain exactly what she was going to do to "fix" my hair. I have always flown back to North Carolina to have my hair cut/colored because I haven't been totally thrilled with anyone in Nashville until now. I just went to Keri-Lyn for the third time and I'm still completely satisfied. I am actually going to have her color my hair in the next few weeks and am confident that she will do a fabulous job. So, if you are looking for someone to listen to what you want and give a meticulous cut then Keri-Lyn is your lady and Salon Ya-Ya is worth a try!
Great Salon and Attentive Stylists!

This is my second time going to Salon Ya Ya and I love it so far! My stylist is Jamie-she's wonderful and my boyfriend is now going to her as well. Both times she has taken the time to help me decide exactly what I want to do with my hair. She also takes her time while doing my hair and although it seems like a while I have been to other salons where they just rush rush rush through your highlights, cuts, etc and this is just so much better. They truly care about the results of your hair and everyone is so nice and professional. I love my hair color and cut that did today! It looks fabulous and much healthier. They don't push you too much to buy products and they pick ones that will really help improve the quality of your hair. She's also great with men's hair because the bf's hair looks awesome too after three other barbers/salons in Nashville. I have seen the results of the other stylists and everything always turns out beautiful. All in all Salon Ya Ya is a great neighborhood salon and takes great care of their clients!
- Pros: fabulous color and cut
A great, trendy salon!
by melcarpenter at Citysearch
Marilyn is my stylist, and she is fabulous! From what I have seen of the work done by the other girls, they do great work, too. I found Salon Ya-Ya through a Google search, looked at their website, and read some reviews. I hate going to a new hair salon, but I really needed something closer to home and work. I've never regretted switching to Marilyn. The salon is highly recommended!!
- Pros: Education, Education, Education!
Faux Hawk and Compliments
by Morganac at Citysearch
I went in to get my hair cut and usually I'm not picky about my hair. I wanted a fuax hawk that was a little bit more alternative. My stylist had never really done a fuax hawk before so I brought in a picture for reference and gave a good description of what I wanted. She listened to me and was very understanding and she nailed it. I have gone to other salons before and asked for the same hair cut and never got exactly what I wanted. This is the first time I've gotten my hair cut the exact way I asked for. I have be getting so many compliments on my haircut and even though I'm a guy, it still makes me happy to get those kind of compliments and I always tell those people where I got my hair cut and who cut it. I'm going to be a regular customer that's for sure. Kudos Salon Ya Ya
- Pros: Great cut, Friendly, Listened to me
- Cons: none for me.
2 Days Later, and I Still Have Dye Stains
by Ourdance801 at Citysearch
I chose Salon Ya Ya based on these City Search reviews, so it's with some sadness that I have to report that things didn't work out for me. I was hoping I'd found my New "forever" salon. Cute place, nice stylists...and that's where the good ends. I went in for a color touchup and a haircut. The color came out fabulous, the problem was (and still is) that my face was stained during the process and it wasn't entirely removed while I was still in the salon. Yes, that's right, they let me walk out of there with dye stains around my forehead and hairline. I was told to use cigarette ashes to get it off.
The second problem was with the cut (a stacked bob). I was nervous to get it done because I wanted it a very specific way. I brought in a picture of myself wearing the haircut I wanted and was told repeatedly that they would give me the same exact cut. I asked again and again for the cut to not be too short - my hair is a bit wavy and when I don't wear it straight it can ride up past my ears. Not Cute. Again, I was assured it wouldn't be cut that short. Well, it was. The back is completely different than the picture, and the sides? They don't even come all the way past my ears.
In all fairness, I was told that the back would be a "little" bit different, but this is SHORT. And I asked for the front and sides to be longer and they aren't. I have two front pieces that are sort of longish, but as soon as I turn my head you can clearly see the hair that's too short to tuck behind my ears.
Overall, I loved the color and the stylist was very friendly, but I'm horrified that I wasn't given the cut I requested. So many positive reviews on here stated that they really listened to you at Salon Ya Ya and that was not my experience. I've also NEVER walked out of a salon with dye stains still on my face. Even if I didn't have problems with the cut, the dye stains around my face would make me think twice about going back.
I've been a walking billboard for Salon Ya Ya. Only, I was hoping it would be in a good way, but it's not. When people ask what caused the dye stains, I tell them.
- Pros: Nice, friendly stylist,
- Cons: Didn't give me the haircut I requested, dye stains on me

Dear Ourdance801,
As co-owner of Salon Ya Ya, I am deeply sorry and embarrassed by your experience here. A base-block should have been applied before your color application. You should not have been stained to start with, but occasionally it does happen in spite of a block. That said, you are absolutely correct that you should have never been allowed to leave with stained skin.
I would like to refund your money for both your cut and color services and will contact you directly to get that to you.
Also know that we are having an emergency group meeting to address this incident, and will do everything in our power to make sure it does not happen again. I will also address your cut your were unhappy with. Thank you for making us aware so we can be pro-active in our handling of this situation.
Wonderful Place

I have to admit that I made an appointment at Salon Ya Ya thinking I was going to a completely different salon. This was the best "mistake" I have ever made. After my stylist of 10+ years moved away, I spent two years searching for someone who could deal with my cowlicks and generally hard to deal with hair. I was so pleased with what I came away with. Marilyn and her group are true "hair psychics"! If you are looking for a flashy salon with stylists having diva personalities and hissy fits while wasting your hard earned money, Salon Ya Ya is not for you. But if you want very talented stylists that give you the best cut of your life in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, you have found a home.
- Pros: Very professional and well trained staff, reasonable prices
- Cons: none so far
Great non intimidating salon
by CurioserStill at Citysearch
My stylist was Reyna. She was courteous and knowledgeable.
I let loose my bun to reveal a mop of hair that had not been cut or attended to in 9 months (due to new baby!) She was not judgemental or condescending as other stylists at other salons sometimes are.
She suggested a deep conditioning treatment for my hair but she did so in a way that was not pushy or aggressive. She listened to what I wanted in terms of a haircut. She was not overly ambitious with her scissors (I have very long hair). She took time with my hair and I came out feeling lighter and brighter than I felt in months. I loved my hair!
Reyna was warm and friendly and skilled. What more could you ask?
My only con? I moving and so I won;t be able to make Reyna and Salon Ya Ya "mine". :(
- Pros: Good listener, No product pushing, great job!
- Cons: I'm moving

The Ya Ya Family
Thanks Courtney!

Courtney turned my hair “don’t” into a “do.”
My previous salon had dyed my highlighted hair brown at my request – only it turned out to be a strange red color. They tried to fix it once, but after having lived with it for 2 months already; I wasn’t in the mood to let them try a third time.
A friend referred me to Courtney at Salon Ya Ya. Not only did Courtney manage to fix my hair color in one attempt, she also gave me the best haircut I’ve had in 10 years. I actually got compliments on my hair at 6 a.m. in the gym last week after I arrived without having had time to put it in a ponytail. The best part is that I hadn’t bothered to brush it yet either. You know you’ve got good hair when that happens!
Thanks Courtney! See you in 6 weeks.
