Four of us went to Virago on a recent hot summer night. The guys wore linen shorts & dress shirts; ladies wore dresses. We were told at the door "shorts weren't allowed". Hum, let me get this straight. No dress shorts, but torn & faded blue jeans w/"slept-in AC/DC" t-shirts were fine. We've been in exclusive country clubs that require collared shirts & shorts are acceptable (as long as they aren't cargo shorts). So I'm not sure what Virago's trying to be when it grows up (exclusive club? Then advertise it as so). I learned a lot that night. A) There's a moronic dress code at Virago B) That Virago needs to realize that this is Nashville, not Boston (what happened to our hip West Coast attitude?) C)That Virago is touted as Asian but is run by Nazis. C) That we went elsewhere & had a much better meal D) I've had great sushi & to get it, I don't have to go to Virago. Hell, I'll just go to Tokyo.
Pros: Can't say. Wasn't allowed in. Not "properly" dressed.
Cons: Used to be a great restaurant. Not sure now.

OK, Nashville is a great little city with nice people. People just plain care about other people. This place was the opposite. Even the people taking reservations are horrendously rude. Go to any other restaurant in town. Management - shame on you!
Pros: OK sushi
Cons: lousy service!!

DINNER DATE WAS MAY 16-2008--I went recently in May for a birthday dinner for a work friend. I was appalled at their lack of customer service for such a "high class" eatery. There were 6 of us, and they seated us at a crowded bar top table, and left us to pull up the extra chairs, birthday girl included! The retaurant surroundings were very posh-but the service was not. We repeatedly had to ask our server her name, to get her attention-as she did not seem to want to tell us or introduce herself upon seating our party. Finally after multiple requests to take our drink order-she did. Then when the food came one fo the girls in our party sent her sushi back after eating one-and discovering this dish was simply not to her liking. She then re-ordered and recvd another entree. Upon paying our tabs before heading out--she found she was charged for BOTH! After speaking w/ the manager-who refused to comp her wasted, uneaten meal-she was still charged for 2 DINNERS. At which point we all gathered together and demanded they give her the paid for xtra dinner in a to-go box! They made her a half portion only to go. I was extremely embarassed for our friend-who it seems a rude manager bullied and took advantage of. I do not plan on returning. The drinks were overpriced and the RUDE service was too pathetic to ignore...Go for drinks, but be prepared to pay for whatever they feel like putting on your bill.

My friends and I were just discussing Virago today. I absolutely am addicted to their sushi...in fact last summer- I was there almost every monday night for half priced sushi monday. One would think that being a loyal patron who ordered massive quantities of sushi- the wait staff would be polite and courteous. This was not the case. It is not at all wheelchair accessible and no effort was made to accomodate my wheelchair- when I asked if I could stash it some place so I would not be hanging out in the aisles- the hostesses acted like it was an atrocious request and was somehow cluttering the pretentious flair of their lounge. However- their food and martinis and delicious. Overpriced- but delicious.

I have to agree with the other bad reviews. This place gives a new meaning to "bad service". The wait staff and manager are also very rude. The food was ok at best. The atmosphere was pretentious and very uncomfortable. Matter of fact, my wife had spilled a $14.00 martini after taking one sip and they would not comp the drink. After speaking with the manager he told me it was their "policy" and there was nothing he could do. That's messed up. Anyway, I wouldn't reccomend this place to anyone. Go to Ru Sans, Sams or Ichiban.
Pros: I don't see any pros, you gotta have the whole package when paying those prices.
Cons: Terrible service!!!!

I have to agree with the other bad reviews. Don't waste your time or money on this place. The staff is rude and the food is just not worth it. Maybe at one time it used to be okay but if I were you I would try another restaurant in town.

So I am not a really trendy atmosphere kind of person but whatever I am going to eat because it's a RESTAURANT.....yeah. The sushi is amazing. Yeah sometimes I think I could buy the same tasting thing at publix but ya know this sushi is big and scrumdiddlyumptious and I like sitting at a table while chatting and being served and Publix doesn't offer that. I had no problem with the service. I have only gone with big groups of friends so I don't really notice because I am talking the whole time. If you are going with just a couple or something it might be different. I like that they serve my regular Bud Light....feels more like home. I had a $8 cosmo and it did nothing for me..I swear till this day it had no alcohol in it. It didn't give me the slightest buz and I hadn't even eaten yet!!! but whatever back to the sushi because that is the word that matters here since it's a SUSHI restaurant. And don't get all bent out of shape if they add an 18% tip onto your bill automatically when there is a big group....A LOT of restaurants do that and it's fair....these people don't get paid much per hour so you are basically paying them their hourly pay. And they have like 50 billion tables to serve so I'm sure they forget every now and then...everyone makes mistakes. If the fancy drinks don't make you happy then just drink beer so you can get full and save your sushi for the next day ! yay! and don't be a snob and not eat leftover fish. Please! or just don't drink at all and save money! yay!! the sushi is a must...give it a try!! I love it!!!!! and it's also fun to dress cute here because after all you will be "seen" hahahaha :-) have a great day while eating sushi!!!!!

We went to Viragos almost weekly for the past year. Usually the service is good, and the sushi is always good. Recently, they have changed what I consider the best filet and limited their non sushi menu selection. The last time we got the new filet, it was sitting in water and the 'new' wasabi potatoes are horrible. The waitress said they are changing the menu so please pay attention to the details of the menu. Great sushi, few other non sushi choices.
Pros: Sushi, trendy atmosphere
Cons: New filet is horrible, no longer half off sushi Mondays

I have been to Virago two times, and it's been great both times. I'm a very picky eater, and even I found something great to eat. I will admit they are a little overpriced, but the atmosphere is worth it.

I've been to Virago many times and never really thought much about it...not too good, not too bad. I went there for trendy events and birthdays. Well recently I read the reviews and then went the same night with my friends only to find out that all the Bad Reviews were absolutely True! They are rude and slow. I love sushi and was really looking forward to some, but by the time the server came to take our order, we had decided Virago would be a drinks only stop for us. We left and went somewhere else for food. (Drinks were slow, staff was extremely rude, policys were ridiculous, we had to leave by a certain time so another party could meet their reservation..okay makes sense..but how come I couldnt get anyone to answer the phone when I tried to call for reservations?) Dont go. Plenty of other great places in Nashville...anything is better than Virago.
Cons: slow, rude
