Love the Belcourt!
by Kate4prez
The Belcourt is great for a million reasons, but the seating is lacking. It shows wonderful movies you can't see anywhere else in 100 miles and they offer alcohol at the consession stand. I love the art work they have displayed and what they are doing for local artist by displaying it. And the staff is always very friendly! But they really do need to redo the seats there! I have seen everything from a documentary on Gay Males with Eating Disorders all the way to Animal House. Keep it up Belcourt!
- Pros: Great moives, Booze at consession stand, friendly staff
- Cons: the seating
My rear hurts!

Sloping, hard seats makes it hard to enjoy any film for long. I boycotted them for a long time for not showing movies at the advertised times. And I've walked out of 2 movies that were too pervy. They want to be different and they are!
- Pros: Classics shown at times
- Cons: Everything else
Historic movie house shows second-run and indie movies; also hosts live musicians and theatre performances.

In Short
The Belcourt has been an entertainment district unto itself in the trendy streetcar-suburb of Hillsboro Village. The genres have changed many a time from opening night in 1925, which saw the Belcourt as a silent movie house, to the Grand Ole Opry days of 1934-36, to its present-day reincarnation as the city's pre-eminent independent cinema. The multi-use performance space now concentrates on film, theater and live music.

where else can you see movies like raiders of the lost ark on the big screen? not to mention the independent films that never make it to the big theaters. it's cheaper, it has a better atmosphere, and it's part of the community. and they play good movies.
