This national landmark is notable for its exotic Egyptian Revival architecture.. In Short
An outstanding example of Egyptian Revival architecture, this national landmark was built in 1851 by William Strickland, the architect who designed the Tennessee State Capitol. The interior features elaborate wall frescoes and dramatic columns. The Egyptian Revival style became popular in the first half of the 19th century, after Napoleon's conquests. Once one of the largest Presbyterian congregations in the country, the church now draws about 200 worshipers each Sunday.
