In Short – This Hillsboro Village pub has the market cornered on Northwoods lodge-style atmosphere. Walking in, you feel like you just came from a hunting trip, thanks to stuffed game and dark wood paneling. Cozy atmosphere aside, the bar has won fans with its solid catfish-and-burger menu, friendly bartenders and a healthy selection of beers. On a given night, you'll need to push your way to the bar through college kids, expat Brits and local tunesmiths.
Pleasant Enough

Had a couple of glasses of wine at the bar during a not very crowded Monday happy hour. Nice atmosphere, friendly people who all know each other. I have to say the bartender was indifferent from sloshing my second glass of wine into the glass before the first was finished to never saying a word otherwise. Eager to return and hear the jazz and blues the other reviewer wrote about. Had a cup of creamy chicken noodle soup which was good for the soul on a cold winter day.
- Pros: Atmosphere
- Cons: Some smokers, server indifferent
Best burger anywhere

If you can get past the dim lighting and smoke, this is by far one of the coolest places in town. Any burger can be served on sourdough and they do a great medium-rare! Check out the upstairs on Wednesday nights for great live jazz and blues music with some underground stellar players.

If you're looking for a fine dining experience, try somewhere nearby (it's in Hillsboro Village, afterall). If you're looking for a great sports bar that happens to have great food and a fun crowd, then you've found the right place. I don't know what table service is like as I always order from the bar. The bartenders are superb -- friendly, efficient and on-the-ball. Top food choices: barbecue on cornbread, chicken quesadilla (order it blackened and get an extra beer), chicken biscuits. One thing you should not do is order fries. They're routinely limp. Not that they have a lot of alternative vegetables. If you must have fries, though, order them "extra crispy" -- code to the kitchen to actually cook them. The regulars are a friendly sort, so pull up a chair and make a friend. They might even tell you how to find the pool room upstairs.
- Pros: Bartenders, Food, Regulars
- Cons: Fries, Smoking, Bluegrass Band
