Editorial Review for Taste of Tokyo – by Kath Hansen
In Short
It's one of the best dining deals in town. Friendly servers greet customers with exuberance as they enter. There's no sushi bar from which to observe the preparations, but at prices like these, no one minds. The combination boxes, one of the best sushi deals in town, offer six pieces of sushi, a side dish (from teriyaki to mixed vegetables), rice, miso soup and salad. For non-meat eaters, veggie options are available.

I'm not sure where others have eaten sushi in the past, possibly at Chinese buffet restaurants, but as some one who has enjoyed Sushi on the coast, this place was a joke. I was impressed with the wait staff, very friendly and accomodating. But, the inexpensive lunch special was too good to be true. I mean, honestly, a bento box for about $6?? I should have known better. The rolls can be best described as bad. Poorly presented and far from fresh. The Philly roll had melted philly cheese, and lacked the main ingredients in a philly roll, hence the cheap deal. You could tell most of the ingredients were a day old or so and had been stored. The salmon sushi wasnt fresh, I dare say it was "bad" as in: expired. It wasnt the correct color or texture for sushi grade fish. I wouldnt eat it. The ginger dressing was bitter and also tasted "old". The chicken was overcooked and the dessert orange was old as well. The experience was awful. The wait staff, again, was very courteous and the iced tea was fresh and my glass was kept full, but that was the only highlight of my meal here. I will never eat here again and can hardly understand why others were so impressed, I can only assume I either visited on a bad day or the others havent truly experienced quality Japanese sushi. Do not reccommend.
Pros: Friendly waitress and hostess
Cons: The food is awful

My girlfriend and I go here occasionally when we need a japanese food fix. The restaurant is small, and the atmosphere is very cozy. The food is excellent. We always order Bento boxes. I love the teriyaki chicken, and she loves teriyaki shrimp. Its a great value too... 2 can eat here for less than $20. This compares to Goten's which has a great ambience, but the food (from the menu, I havent had the hibachi) isnt so great. Last time we went here, they gave my girlfriend and I, each a loaf of bread free! As other reviewers have mentioned the service is quick and efficient as well. They also say goodbye to you when you leave, now thats customer service.
Pros: Great value, Great food, and great service.
Cons: parking can be troublesome on busy nights.
