A great hide out!. I like the place! One of the few that still know what value means, from the food to the drinks. Its crowd may be a bit colorful at times, but isn't that what you go out for anyway? The regulars are very friendly, they play great music, always have the games on, and I've never had a problem with parking. The "Cheers" reference is true, they DO remember your name AND what you drink...not sure how as it is a very popular place, but they do. There is also something kind of nostalgic about the place as well, sure it has its faults, but what place doesn't? Cold beer, friendly people, and in general a laid back place.

Marathons--the REAL review. First of all, let me apologize to those of you who might have been fooled by the previous review of Marathons from a child who got kicked out because it was revealed she had a fake ID. Marathons is a hole-in-the-wall and most everyone who goes is regulars. I've been going for the past 2 years several nights a week, and most of the people I go with have been going longer than that. Barbie and Charlie are both great bartenders. Neither one has ever overcharged me, and they both usually cut me an amazing deal. My drink is always ready before I even make it to the bar from the door. Taking care of your customers doesn't mean you never charge them for everything they drink, this is still a business. I appreciate the breaks they do cut me and always tip well, no matter what. That's how the real world works. If you're looking for a smaller, laid-back atmosphere you should check it out. Karaoke(although not my favorite) is held two nights a week and there is a dart tournament on Thursday nights, and always someone to play pool with. My advice--come see for yourself, and don't listen to children's temper tantrums.

Worst bartender EVER. I have to say that the worst bartender I have ever come across works here. There are two nightly bartenders, one is Barbie and one is Charlie. Charlie is the worst one ever. She has served people under age and regularly serves pregnant women a LOT...more than they should ever be served - anywhere. She is a bitch and always overcharges customers and tells EVERYONE that she "has to take care of her family". I understand making money, but as a bartender the point is to take care of your regular customers (and customers in general) to get good tips to earn money - not to screw everyone over. I have been going there very regularly for over a year and was literally yelled at and thrown out of the bar tonight because of something Charlie didn't like, which was in fact her own fault. Barbie (Barb) is an amazing bartender and will always give great drinks and is guaranteed to also provide a great time. Barb is one of the best bartenders I've ever come across and will never get in the weeds no matter how many people are in the bar. Beware though - call ahead of time and find out who is working. If it is Charlie.....make other plans and NO ONE should be subjected to her bull**** (I got censored by citysearch). I sincerely hope that on the very few nights that she works the place is dead. Barb is amazing and if she is working you are guaranteed to be taken (very good) care of. So, final analysis - if Barb is working - GO! If Charlie is working - either submit yourself to a horrible night, or find another bar to go to.

Shit Hole for Hoosiers;. First of all, the place is filthy and the old dick who owns it is a nasty pervert. I heard that the owner has been watering down the liquor for years, in order to increase profits. I would advise against eating there because it is rumored that customers have sex in the kitchen. The girls that hang out in there are your typical "finger-in-the-butthole sluts" who take it in the ass on a regular basis and will blow the bartender for a free drink. The guys that hang there are thugs, drug dealers and your typical uneducated psychopaths. The dyke-lookin bartender who works during the day looks like she has herpes and is as dumb as a box of hair. The other staff are either mentaly unstable, brain damaged, or inbred. Dont even go there unless you want to sit around and make fun of people.

Worst Bartender Ever. I live down the street and have been in there off and on for 5 plus years. Most of the bartenders there are pretty good at what they do for the place that it is. But, this bartender that was there last night was TERRIBLE! I mean in all of my years, she might be the worst bartender that I've EVER seen! It was almost painful to watch! I honestly can't think of ONE positive about her. Is she related to or dating the owner of that joint?

cool place to drink. Good bar, great crowd, decent prices. It's a great place, like Cheers, except about 10-11 pm (coke-thirty) when the it's impossible to get into the the restroom.

Local Dive for Smokers. C'mon. Really? As a visitor to Nashville, I find it unfortunate that anyone would recommend a place like this. It's a tired old smoke-filled local dive with one large flat panel HDTV and a few small antique TVs scattered around. The night I was there, the sound system, such that it is, was playing U2 music rather that the audio from the game that was on the HGTV. This really doesn't qualify as a Sports Bar in the contemporary sense. It's certainly a popular place, as there was a pretty good crowd for a Monday. So much so that the bar staff was in the weeds and there was no evidence of table service. Unable to judge the food, as none appeared to have been served. I lasted about 30 minutes, during which it was impossible to get even a drink, and then left. Unfortunately, the clothes I was wearing will require a few washings to get the smoke stench out. Maybe a great spot for locals who want a low-end watering hole to hang out in, but that's about it.

Used to be a good neighborhood bar, but not anymore. There's too many thugs looking for trouble & being overserved alcohol for the sake of the tips. Not a safe place to take a date or spouse.. Like I said...too many thugs just looking for trouble in this place. On the occasions we have frequented the place lately there are always trouble makers who have been overserved alcohol because they tip the bartenders well enough that the bartenders overlook them being problem customers. I have personally had my spouse verbally assaulted for no reason at all by a drunk because she wouldn't dance with him. He was allowed to stay. We left. There have been numerous fights and even a homicide in the parking lot this year. There are too many other places in the general area to go where these problems don't exist to put up with this kind of stuff as a patron.

Greatest place to un wind after a day at the salt mine. The Marathon is a great plac e to hang out after a tough day, or to go see the latest sports games in season. The folks there are friendly, and all the food is excellent This little local bar is a hidden secret. Un believeable burgers, pizza, ice cold beer, and a great mix of people

Highly recommended by a 3 year resident of Nashville, very modestly priced and just a darn good time.

Can be a little smokie at times, but al in all, not too bad

Best bar in Nashville. This bar Rocks...first of all it has the best food around Nashville. I'm from the New York area, and I'm so sick of fast food and corporate places that have the name of the establishment on the employee's shirts! This place has a down home feel with all of the trimmings. Great people hang out there, they have ALL the NFL games, and you really feel like you are being taken care of. Do yourself a favor, go there and get the wings, and a beverage of your choice, it's sooooo good
