In Short – Casual by day and romantic by night, the restaurant at the end of Third Avenue, near the symphony. In warm weather, couples and small groups clamor for outdoor seats. Chef Agnoletti left northern Italy, toting his recipes for pastas and sauces that leave diners crying, "Amore." Favorites include the fresh manicotti the gnocchi, especially when paired with his kick-in-the-pants arrabbiata sauce. Desserts include amaretto-soaked chocolate layer cake.

Editor's Tips

Know Before You Go:
All pastas are made in house and you can usually match them with any sauce that tickles your palate.
Where to Sit:
Ask for outside seating or fireside seating to create that romantic ambience.

Real Italian in Nashville

by zhandax at Citysearch

This is my go-to place before downtown concerts and probably my favorite restaurant in Nashville. If by myself I will just eat at the bar but I have never been late to a show when seated with a date. I have never ordered off the regular menu; there is always something on the specials menu which sounds better. The cioppino is to die for; lobster, swordfish, mahi, shrimp and scallops over homemade pasta with a spicy tomato sauce! When it is not on the specials menu, the other pasta specials have been equally spectacular but didn't put all my favorites on one plate. Tiramisu for dessert is mandatory and memorable.

The one improvement I could suggest is the espresso is a bit generic. Having been spoiled on home roasted Turquino, their shots just didn't have the chocolaty overtones to do justice to the Tiramisu. It's minor point and one easily covered up with a shot of Bailey's.

Fuori di questo mondo!!

by Kathy Gieson at Citysearch

This place is amazing! The service, food, wine and atmosphere are top notch! I couldn't of dreamed a better place to celebrate my 10 year anniversary. We had the eggplant rollatini to start, followed by the caprese and isalata di mare. For our entrees we had the chateaubriand and the cioppiono. Delizioso! They were so sweet they gave us a complimentry dessert for our anniversary, Carrot Cake...OMG! Will definately be back. And for those who knock it: Va' Fa Napoli!

Terrible. Bland. Taseless.

by sigrid2 at Citysearch

We went for my birthday dinner, a party of five. We had reservations for 7 pm and had to wait about 10 minutes for the hostess to even show up at the door. The server was chatty, I suppose, to cover for her lack of polish. She served a refill of ice tea that did not have ice in the glass. "I swear, it's cold!" she joked. The salad and bread was tasty; the meal went downhill from there. I had spinach gnocchi. It was bland, just tasteless. The house red sauce was just a joke---bland, bland, bland. My husband ordered a steak medium rare and it came to the table drenched in bernsdaise sauce--- and bloody and cold. We sent it back; the server was apologetic- "I don't do the cooking, you know." My mom had beef crepes and they were without flavor--a plate of mush. The dessert was ok. The bill came and the waitress had chosen to grat a table of five 20%. This was outrageous; the standard procedure is tables of six or mare and 18%. The menu did not state this unusual policy.

On the way out, we saw the health department score of 84. We will never return.

We loved it!

We had a great time at Sole Mio. Began with a caesar salad, which was reccommended by our server..Definitely the best caesar I've had in a long time. The pasta is so satisfying and perfectly al dente. Our server was very patient with our table and never made us feel like we were taking up too much time..She reccommended a "Super Tuscan" wine we had never tried and it was perfect with everything. We felt totally at home! We will be back for sure.

  • Pros: Homemade pasta, professional staff

IF YOU KNOW ITALIAN FOOD, THIS PLACE IS SUB-PAR

by kevinfromnashville at Citysearch

This is what a good Italian restaurant is: an unassuming hole-in-the wall place that gives you butt-kicking food in unimaginable quantities. Nashville does not have a single one. Not one. I'm originally from Massachusetts, lived in Rochester, NY for 10 years and have eaten in some of the best dives in New York City. Every Italian restaurant in Nashville is a disappointment to someone who knows Italian food. Sole Mio is a place that you can go to impress a naive first date - but make sure that she can peek at the check so she knows what a big spender you are. DO NOT - I repeat - DO NOT take an Italian here. He or she will think you're an idiot.

  • Pros: none that I can think of
  • Cons: High Prices
