In Short
Nestled in a modest old house, Sylvan Park's baby blue walls and crowded square tables are a throwback to the days before fast food and fern bars. The lunch entrees are reminiscent of a Southern, Sunday afternoon feast: turkey and dressing, fried chicken, roast beef with gravy, country ham (fried or baked) and country fried steak. But Sylvan Park keeps its lofty reputation on made-fresh chocolate and butterscotch pies.

If you do, try the roast beef. It's got the smell and the consistency of cat food, and I can even imagine that this is what cat food tastes like. Really just some of the worst roast beef I have ever had, and I have had A LOT. The green beans were good, and the other veges just ok. And the service?? HORRIBLE. So, supposedly this place has great chocolate pie. I guess I'll never know, because I was hoping to try a piece and didn't get to. Why? Because a group of 6 people came in just as I was about to finish my meal, and the server apparently knew them, because she asked them immediately if they wanted chocolate pie. Apparently there was only 2 slices left, so she gave them a chance to claim them. That's just.... stupid.

this is a restaurant with classic southern food. the prices are fair and the service is good. they servers all seem a little bit southern themselves. it seems like a great place to take a family. there was a decent variety of food too. it really reminded me of eating at home (only you didn't have to do the cooking or the dishes).

Decided to try the Sylvan Park in Donelson, My mother and I were seated and waited on immediately. The waitress was nice and after asking if we needed more time, she returned soon. I ordered the days special which was a barbeque sandwich with french fries and cole slaw. The waitresses worked together to see to it that our food was brought out quickly. There was ample barbeque and french fries and all was good. The diet coke was good. The waitress tended to us frequently without being intrusive. I was attended to quickly when paying. I enjoyed my experience at the restaurant.

The Extras:
A vegetable plate isn't a bad option. Squash casserole, mac and cheese, green beans and the positively transcendent mashed potatoes get the thumbs-up.
