Cafeteria, or prison, or maybe prison cafeteria?. New to the neighborhood and thought we'd try this local spot. Walking in, the room was warm (in the summer heat) and filled with banquet chairs at small tables. The menu only offered a handful of choices per day of the week. My husband got meatloaf with creole sauce and I got BBQ chicken. The meat was bland and overcooked in both dishes, and the sides were lukewarm and made from canned goods. This was very disappointing for a neighborhood full of local produce! We were too unimpressed to try the famous pie/pudding. The bill was $19 for lunch, and the food was no better than prison or cafeteria food. We will not be back!

Deeee-lish!. I've lived in Sylvan Park for two years without trying this gem. For some reason, I never visited the restaurant, despite the numerous reviews I'd heard. Well I finally caved in today, and I sure am glad I did (my waist line isn't as happy). They give large side items, which is usually my favorite part of the meal, and you get two rolls with a small container of 'butter'. I cannot wait to bring my soul food-loving friends, and I CANNOT wait to try their famous chocolate pie. The kind woman working the cash register was as warm and inviting as a person can be. Enjoy!

Rude. Elenor Clay, the owner of Sylvan Park is a very rude lady. I would not suggest eating at this restaurant. There are many other wonderful places to dine in Nashville without giving this business owner business your business.

Donelson Location finally meets expectations. We were so happy to have a Donelson location open a year or more ago, but very disappointed when we ate there. They were not open long and we didn't mourn their closing. After another restaurant (which was also pretty bad) opened then closed the Sylvan Park sign went back up. I decided to try it again today and was very pleasantly surprised. I went with two friends and we had a wide assortment of the veggies, along with crabcakes and roast beef. We were all very pleased and found the food to be flavorful and well cooked. Our server was very patient with us while we waited for one of our friends and took very good care of us. If you tried this restaurant in one of its previous incarnations, you should really consider giving it another try.

Do you like cat food?. If you do, try the roast beef. It's got the smell and the consistency of cat food, and I can even imagine that this is what cat food tastes like. Really just some of the worst roast beef I have ever had, and I have had A LOT. The green beans were good, and the other veges just ok. And the service?? HORRIBLE.

So, supposedly this place has great chocolate pie. I guess I'll never know, because I was hoping to try a piece and didn't get to. Why? Because a group of 6 people came in just as I was about to finish my meal, and the server apparently knew them, because she asked them immediately if they wanted chocolate pie. Apparently there was only 2 slices left, so she gave them a chance to claim them. That's just.... stupid.
