Editorial Review for McCabe Pub – by Patrick Rains
In Short
A local hangout for Sylvan Park residents for years, McCabe is more neighborhood pub than sports bar. The decor is equally warm, with cedar-paneled walls, forest-green carpeting and sports photos and jerseys on the wall. The focal point at McCabe is its large, curved cedar bar where regulars sit and sip, watching games on the bar's four televisions. A respectable menu ranges from salads to filets, but the biggest draw is the juicy, thick burgers.

Where to SitThose looking for a quiet meal away from the televisions and bar should request a table in the alcove at the front of the restaurant.

If I didnt live practically across the street, I would never go back. I've been here on a few occasions, and the servers and hostesses were unfriendly. The decor is dark and uninspiring. The food is not bad, but predictable, nothing special. Tonight, after waiting 20 minutes for a table, my name was called. I had to push my way through a crowd blocking the door to get to my table. I ordered a chicken parmasean with a side salad..When my meal came out, I was surprised to learn that the chicken was covered in a meat sauce. The menu said that the chicken was covered in spaghetti sauce. The waitress explained to me that their spaghetti sauce has meat in it. It is implied. McCabe Pub should be more sensitive to different eating styles. Not everyone eats everything. Plus I didnt appreciate being argued with. After a night like this, I doubt I will go back for dinner, maybe for drinks.
Pros: good location
Cons: everything else

On their daily dessert menu, you will almost always find apple, cherry, or blackberry "crunch." The other regular item is "Hershey's cake." I have been told the cake isn't anything spectacular, and I have been extremely disappointed with the blackberry crunch. To begin, the blackberry crunch has a prominent pineapple flavor (you cannot even taste the blackberries.) Secondly, the dessert is not very thick, meaning you get more vanilla ice cream than blackberry crunch. And last but not least, you may only see three to four small blackberries in the dessert total.
Pros: Relaxed atmosphere
Cons: Food quality
