What People Are Saying About Calhoun's Restaurants

In Short – This White Bridge Road landmark has been going strong since the 1980s, and there's nothing trendy about it. Red-checked tablecloths, exposed-brick walls and a hopping, saloon-style bar appeal to the crowd of regulars who come for a decent meal and no surprises. "Award-winning" baby back ribs are bathed in a rich sauce. Spinach-artichoke dip, a fern-bar standby, is great with pre-dinner cocktails.

horrible experience
by a selective shopper at Citysearch
I visited this restaurant in Nashville late afternoon one day with a friend. It was so slow that the bartender waited on our table which was located near the bar. We were the only customers there as far as I could see other than 5 men sitting at the bar. As I was trying to carry on a conversation with my friend, the only thing that I could hear, was the words f-ck, mother fu--er and etc in a loud tone. from a couple of the guys. I asked them if they could please refrain from using that language, but they laughed about it and began to mock me. Obviously they had to much to drink because they continued to get louder and louder. When the bartender came out, they explained to him what happened. He began to laugh right along with them and then he apologized to them for me saying something to them. From that point on all them began to taunt me and make rude and abusive remarks toward me, including the bartender. I finally asked for the manager which she kindly asked them to stop. I learned that these gentlemen are well known in this bar which concludes that this is their normal way of acting when they visit there. Which is probably why this restaraunt is struggling. Who wants to visit a restaraunt to try to eat and have a conversation when you have to listen to loud and vulgar language.
Good Food, Nice Place. Bring Earplugs
by perstare at Citysearch
I've eaten there several times. I usually am part of a group of people, numbering between 6 and 15.
I look forward to the day when the Calhoun's owners invest in some soundproofing. My only criticism of the place is that my ears are ringing by the time we leave. It is very noisy -- but not caused by guests shouting. It is caused by the surface of the walls and ceiling... highly sound reflective.
It really is bad.
I am scheduled to meet with my group, at Calhoun's, this coming Friday, September 7. I may not go just because of the noise level.
... and... for the record, it isn't just me and my ears...Calhoun's is widely known for this noise problem.
The food is great, the service very good. Go. ...but be forewarned.
MIke
- Pros: Food, Service
- Cons: The noise level. Ouch -- my poor ears!

quality que

Calhouns really does a quality job with its BBQ ribs
and BBQ pork. It's actually hickory smoked so its
authentic BBQ by the real definition of BBQ. The ribs are the best I've had anywhere. On top of that
the cole slaw, beans, and homemade biscuits
lets you know you know you are in the South where the BBQ is the best. The staff was very
friendly and service is always prompt.
- Pros: smells like BBQ, Southern hospitality, great BBQ sauce
