What People Are Saying About J Alexander's Restaurants

In Short – The building is separated into three distinct dining areas. Though the room is dim, each table is a well-lit, intimate space. There's also a bar, which eases the burden of long waits during peak dining times. The menu features four cuts of beef, burgers and a prime rib plate; even the pasta dishes are topped with chicken. Ribs are also available, and the house-specialty chicken strips are served as both an appetizer and an entree.
Editor's Tips
- Save Time:
- Lunch and dinner crowds are usually large, so take advantage of the call-ahead seating.
- Parking:
- Spots are available in front, as well as in the White Bridge shopping center in which J. Alexander's is located.
Rip Off!
by Janitosis at Citysearch
Want a rip-off? Dine at J. Alexander's. Direct quote from the manager at J. Alexander's tonight: "Yes, our prices go up when it gets dark outside." (After I tried to place a to go order for a cup of Chicken Pasta soup. The price went from $5 to $6 just because they are now on the dinner menu.) ABSURD!!!
They have just lost countless loyal customers because of this inconsideration, selfishness, and greediness!
Good Times at J Alexander's

I met with some friends for lunch I had not seen in some time. We wanted a place to not only enjoy a great meal, but a place we could relax and enjoy visiting without feeling we needed to move on so others could have a place to be served. This was a great dining experience and the service was excellent. We are already planning our next visit. Thank you so much for making our visit so comfortable and memorable. The food and service was exceptional!
I almost wish I could find 1 negative

I have been to J alexanders so many times ive lost count. I actually ONLY get the same meal every time I go (probably because im afraid if i get something different i wont like it and have a bad eating exp.) Of course they have to best spinach queso ive ever had. And i get the steak maui every time. Its not as expensive as most say (well, that is with what "I" get) and i dont get drinks from the bar because that does get expensive real quick. I cant stand paying 7-8 bucks for a small mixed drink. But for the food, its definatly a great place to go. Going tonight!
- Pros: WONDERFUL Food and Service
- Cons: Travel time..the closest one is 30-45 mins away
Consistently Excellent Meals
by VeronicaDarling at Citysearch
I love J Alexanders restaurant it is very consistent you can go to one in Atlanta or Nashville and you will have the same excellent meal. The prices are kind of high but you do seem to get alot for your money. I really enjoy the friendly staff and the ambience during the day is casual and well lit power lunch type crowd but at night can be romantic and casual or very dressy depending on your mood. They will make sure you are taken care of. I really like chain restaurants because they do have customer service in mind which it's a pretty simple concept actually. This is why they are successful in my mind.My favorite things on the menu are the Fish of the day over Israeli couscous and coleslaw, Chicken salad with feta, Spinach and queso and the fresh Guacamole is great too. My boyfriend loves the french dip. The rattlesnake pasta is amazing enough for 2 adults! There really isn't anything I would not eat off that menu. J Alexanders in my opinion is the best place in Nashville for a wonderful and delicious meal EVERY TIME.
- Pros: Tasty Food
- Cons: Can be pricey
Service Doesn't Come Cheap
by xizor at Citysearch
J. Alexander's is the prototypical American cuisine with top notch service. That service comes with a price, no doubt. The food is good and a server will be at your ever beck and call in case your glass appears to be just short of full. It is for this reason that common entrees will certainly cost more than they should. Expect to pay ten bucks for a hamburger. On a more positive note, the cheesecake is nothing short of pure bliss. Even better, the dessert will serve two, HEARTY eaters. The Cheesecake Factory in Green Hills wishes it could make this cheesecake.
- Pros: service
- Cons: cost
