Try it again!. There are some bad reviews on here, but they don't apply any more. Now Sam and Zoe's has lots of tasty and healthy sandwiches, salads, wraps, etc., and the coffee is excellent! There's not much near 100 Oaks to choose from, and no other place for coffee drinks over there that I know of, but they're the real deal. Tonight I had them make the Spicy Thai Chicken Salad as a wrap (I'm salad-adverse!), and it turned out great -- so fresh and delicious! Everyone who works there is pleasant and accomodating. P.S. I'm not the owner, I'm a student. Also: "I won't go back" guy, maybe the girl rolled her eyes because you said you don't like "luck warm coffee." It's luke warm, genius.
Why I will not go back?.
Everything went well, I ordered my coffee and started drinking it. A decent cup of Joe but simply luck warm. Now I just don't like luck warm coffee. May be I should have said that I wanted it to be hot?
Anyhow I gently asked the lady at the counter if she had a microwave oven. She said Yes and then ROLLED her eyes like I was asking for the moon. Now here is the deal, this is a service oriented business and customers can be a pain but asking to heat up a cup of coffee for 20 seconds in a microwave is not too much to ask for. So here it is Zoe, or Same or whatever your name: YOU WILL NEVER SEE ME IN YOUR COFFEE SHOP AGAIN. You have just lost another customer.
Sam and Zoe's Awesome!!.
I visit frequently and I love this coffee shop. Have you tried their breakfast burritos? They are amazing. The smoothies are made with real fruit and are great. The frozen coffee drinks rock over Star Bucks. The bagels are the best around. I try to support locally owned businesses and this place is great. The atmosphere is laid back even a little incense from time to time.
Jeff's Special is my favorite sandwich there. Give this place a try if you haven't been there in a while. You will love it.
back like it used to be. Ok, there are some terrible reviews on here. But have any of you gone back. There is a new owner, Carma, who is trying to bring back some of what everyone loved and keep what everyone loves now. Give us a try again. If you don't see the difference and don't like your food it is on me. I am the new owner. We make everything fresh, use organic as much as possible, no preservatives etc...
Sadly, not what it used to be.
I was a regular there for years and it was great, but I've decided I've given this place enough chances since the change in ownership, and I'm not planning on going back.
In the past, it was a nearby spot that I knew I could count on for quality coffee and espresso, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and a great sandwich, but all that has drastically changed over the past year.
First, most of the employees now seem to not really care about customers. They rarely even say "Hello". Actually, it seems like it's always someone new behind the counter, too. Only a couple of them are friendly, and the owner, I believe, has been the rudest of all. Every time I went there before this changeover, my lattes were perfect, and there was no surprise considering how many award-winning baristas they used to have. Now, they only occasionally get a drink right, but most of the time, the shots are no good and the milk is flat. Plus, they don't have a very broad variety of brewed coffee to choose from anymore and they usually can't tell me anything about it. Second, the food is mediocre and just not as fresh. It doesn't surprise me though looking around at lunch and seeing less than half the restaurant full, and the place is small. I'm also pretty sure the pepperoni on a pizza bagel I got once, was rancid. I couldn't finish it and felt awful later.
No one that works there now even seems to know what's in the items they're serving, either. They don't even put to-go sandwiches in bags anymore, they just loosely wrap them, so if you get chips and a drink, have fun juggling on your way out.
In addition, I have to say I also miss the local art on the walls, huge refrigerators NOT on the nice porch, the awesome tofu sandwich, and all the extra muffins, house-made treats, and chocolate bars.
Sorry, Sam & Zoe's, it was good while it lasted.
New Owners, Lost its appeal. I went to S&Z's recently to get my all time fave, the TLT deluxe, and enjoy a lunch hour reading the Scene and drinking fling tea. Unfortunately, they don't have the TLT deluxe and was told that it was because of the new ownership. Why change something that was obviously loved? The place overall does not have the same feel and I am sad to say I have not been back since.
Wish items had remained same..
Went back to show my friend the veggie burger that was so good the one time I had it. Unfortunately it was a pre-bought patty and felt like a waste of time even dining there. Also was bummed the pasta salad was different and sorta dry.
Liked some of the new things inside the place but really must fix the food back to the standards it was before I would return.
Not going back.
Sam & Zoe's has long been my favorite coffee spot in town - they had great brews, great food, and the staff were always friendly and fun. Since the new management has taken over I have been in four times - trying to 'make' myself like all the changes because I hated to lose my favorite spot. Not only did they axe my absolute favorite menu items - the TLT deluxe which was the best tofu sandwich I have ever eaten, but they also got rid of the to-die-for chocolate cake. The staff now are so rude...I was waiting to order a cup of coffee for almost ten minutes on my last visit and did not even get an apology. I miss the quaint mismatched chairs and local artists handiwork on the walls. Instead of quaint local hang-out, the place reminds me of a Subway - with potato chip bar and a stark sterile environment. Ugh, not only that, but when I went this past Saturday they were blaring 50's tunes... I mean, there is only so much one can take.
I also miss being able to choose from several different blends of coffee - now what they have is what you get...and what you get it just not worth the stop. Heaven forbid you want a refill - the 'super' staff have to get it for you and they might just bite your arm off first...that is if they ever get around to serving you.
I am all for change if it is good change...none of the changes I have observed here are. I am sad to say it, but this long-time customer is not going back. Portland Brew, here I come.
Love this cozy coffee shop!!!!. I had been to Sam and Zoe's in the past but I wasn't pleased. I was recently informed that it's under new ownership so I popped in today and fell in love with the place! The service is so wonderful! The girls working were fun and funny and very welcoming. I am sure to be back to visit more and more often!!! I would absolutely recommend this place!!
Sam & Zoe's in name only.... I didn't know the place was under new ownership until I overheard someone say as much. I figured the menu would be the same (hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it), but I was surprised to find the old menu missing. They did make me an overpriced hot cereal, which was good, and the coffee was, well, not very memorable. The cooler was gone and the convenient coffee "island" had vanished. The place had a stark, empty feeling to it. I miss the old Sam & Zoe's. Thankfully the great porch is still there.
