In Short
A casual atmosphere of counter service and self-serve drinks makes Calypso an easy place to stop for a nutritious meal that's out of the ordinary. The menu incorporates fresh flavors from the Caribbean islands with health food dishes. A meat-and-three plate includes barbecued or Jamaican-curried rotisserie chicken partnered with a choice of mustard greens or a cornbread muffin. Curry chicken salad with pineapple and raisins offers a unique twist on the tearoom version.

This food is amazing, but be careful because it is addicting.... 1/2 Chick All Dark + Rice & Beans. Don't forget about dessert.

Calypso Cafe used to have the best lunch in the city but somebody needs to take the salt shaker away from the current chef--maybe it's me, but it's gotten VERY salty. The food was always good, always consistent, and the service is great. It?s got the occasional obnoxious, ill-mannered diner who doesn?t realize there are other people in the place with her while she screams into her cell phone, but I?m beginning to think that?s going to happen anywhere you go. What?s wrong with these people? Anyway, Calypso Cafe?s a bit crowded at lunchtime, but they get you in and out pretty quickly. And it?s worth the wait--except on Sundays when the church people bring their fidgeting kids who should be on Ritalin but obviously aren?t. If you go after 2PM for lunch, don?t expect the quality you get at noon?I don?t know why, but it seems to slip a bit after the lunch crowd leaves. And please, guys, lose the salt. I haven't been there in over a year because my last two lunches were like eating the Dead Sea on top of salad greens. I'll try again in a month or so.

This place is the best. Fast, inexpensive, delicious Carribean food. The black bean salad is to die for, and the beans n three is always a good choice. The house viniagrette is also amazing. The hot spiced tea in the winter months is nice too. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. A++++
