In Short – In the '60s, owner "Tootsie" Bess had a soft spot for struggling writers and nurtured the stomachs--and bar tabs--of greats like Roger Miller, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson. Today, the purple facade anchors Lower Broadway's colorful past, and the interior walls are crowded with publicity stills of the greats, the hopefuls and never-wills who came to town chasing dreams. Ultimately, this is the place locals insist on taking visitors when touring Nashville's nightlife.

Editor's Tips

Know Before You Go:
Be sure to go upstairs and see the back bar and the back door. This is how the Opry stars came in.

Great Time!

by huskerfan75 at Citysearch

We came to Nashville in January for vacation and spent Thursday evening at Tootsies. Yes, it was crowded but the music was fantastic. The Scott Collier band rocked that place. The bartenders and everyone in there was friendly. We never had to wait for a drink. I was expecting to pay alot for beer like in Vegas but was surprised that drinks were priced what I would normally pay at home. We can't wait to go back and party at Tootsies again! Nashville as a whole was a wonderful vacation destination!

Great Location, Fun Times

by Stu243 at Citysearch

Whether you want to have a cold beer after a game or concert downtown or just hang out and listen to music, this is the spot. It is very convenient being on Broadway downtown. This is the real deal, a legend in Nashville.

Good place to take guests

by OrangeFan1998 at Citysearch

We take our out of town guests here whenever they can. This place is well known all over, and the live music can be very good at times. It is close to the hockey games too so we can grab a beer after the weekend games. Parking is not easy, but you are downtown, so that is to be expected I guess.

TOO FULL!!! No room to breathe!!

by Hypers Starr at Citysearch

First off, I love Broadway & the legend of Tootsie's... I have been in there before (not during nighttime activity) and it was so cool to see the inside! We went Saturday night and the doorman let us in and there was NO ROOM... we made our way to the second floor in hopes we would be able to have room, but no such luck! We were being shoved, stepped on, and it was enough to throw me into a major panic attack. (I do not have those very often, so it was bad!) The band sounded great but the place was too small for them to continue letting people in. You could not get to the bar without violently shoving people out of the way and that is not fun to me! I will go to Tootsie's again... but before a crowd arrives... It was a HUGE fire code violation, if anything happened we would have been trampled, killed, or severely hurt. Very disappointing!!
