Editorial Review for Tootsie's Orchid Lounge – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
In the '60s, owner "Tootsie" Bess had a soft spot for struggling writers and nurtured the stomachs--and bar tabs--of greats like Roger Miller, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson. Today, the purple facade anchors Lower Broadway's colorful past, and the interior walls are crowded with publicity stills of the greats, the hopefuls and never-wills who came to town chasing dreams. Ultimately, this is the place locals insist on taking visitors when touring Nashville's nightlife.

I thought this place was amazing. Great history. Great fun. Everyone was super nice from the door to the floor. Our party was from Detroit and they gave us shout outs all night. One of the performers "Scott" took our video camera while he was singing and recorded us in the crowd. Good music, made some great freinds. This placed does get packed (all day long) so go early and bird hawk a table. Holler & swaller!!!!
Pros: nice people, history, crowd & bands
Cons: I'm having trouble regaining my voice

This bar stinks. I am from the west coast and my friend accidentally went upstairs in a staircase that wasn't marked at all no signs and had a open door and was a business office (totally not on purpose) performing as a guitarist in an hour in their shi**y bigoted club and was treated like a piece of doo doo. some guy yelled at him like "get the hell out of here what the f*** ar eyou doing here"...no questions asked. Didn't even have the dignity to say, are you performing?? Some total as***** greeted him didn't even ask him who he played for. Unreal my buddy will never play this bar again. I say who gives a fu** who the f*** Tooties thinks they are, never again will he step foot there....only in Nashville could you get treated this way like a second class citizen even when someone works for a major artist.....very sad...I used to respect country and the country "way" but boy has that changed in this dumpy town...
Pros: always busy
Cons: management disgorganized and rude, no customer service
