3 strikes and Noshville is out.
I've been to Noshville 3 times now and every time has been a disappointment. Perhaps I'm not privy to the one good item on the menu, but clearly the people who go to this place have never been to a NY deli.
Went there for a late lunch on Saturday - the place was not busy. We ordered the regular club on sourdough and a french dip. The club showed up stacked high with what looked like a pound of turkey. The sandwich was dry (they don't put mayo on it for some unknown reason) and the turkey completely overpowered the sandwich, couldn't even tell there were 3 pieces of bacon on. The sourdough tasted like something you could buy at a grocery store. It's pretty difficult to mess up a club, but they have managed to at Noshville.
The french dip was stacked high with unseasoned roast beef, large mushy chunks of onion, and greasy flavorless cheese all on a soggy grocery store roll. The aus jus tasted like water, completely bland and a wasted opportunity to save the crapwich. The fries were extremely greasy and soggy. The highlight of the meal was the colesaw which was crisp and had the right amount of mayo and celery seeds.
We both left feeling ill and bothered for wasting nearly $25 for 2 mediocre sandwiches. Will not give Noshville another try.
it will do. Had a $9 spicy chicken melt. Wasn't even given a choice of bread so naturally it was put on (ugh) rye bread. B&W cookies and H&H bagels were good, but not as fresh and good as getting them direct from Zabar's and H&H Bagels on the Upper West Side in New York City. That said, I'd probably give Noshville another try unless somebody knows where else I can get H&H bagels and Zabar's black and white cookies without paying $40 minimum on shipping to buy them direct from them online. And how about chocolate babka? Why isn't that offered?
Wildly inconsistent.
You'd think it would be hard to screw up a sandwich and french fries, but somehow, Noshville manages to do it 75% of the time. I've been going to this place for over 8 years, and I only enjoy myself a quarter of the time. As such, my patronage of this place has dropped significantly over the last couple of years.
Sometimes I'll go and have the best egg salad sandwich and french fries. Those days are great.
Then I'll go and have the worst french fries and egg salad of my life. The fries will be ultra greasy and soggy and the sandwich will be served on stale rye bread with the tomato and onion and olive missing. And at 7 bucks for the sandwich, I don't like gambling that I'll get a decent cook.
why THIS place?. The long and short of it is this: Music industry people go there to be seen and everyone else goes to say they had lunch across from industry people. The food is nothing special. Large portions try to make up for the greasy and luke-warm "off the grill" items. It's expensive (BLT is $8). They pre-make (not prep) salads so you can end up with a crushed salad made at 6am when you go in at 4pm. Same with the burgers. I am reminded of McDonald's where the burgers are kept in a steam oven and slapped on a bun. Staff is friendly, but busy...working? You won't leave hungry but you'll leave unsatisfied.
The best tuna melt around.
This is on my top 10 list. Great food, huge portions and great pickles.
I have tried most of the menu and recommend the Chicken noodle soup and the Tuna melt.
Great cheese cake, rumor is they bring it in from a famous deli in NY city.
Comfort food at it's best!
My family loved this place!.
Great menu and the things we ordered came out tasting just like when my mom or grandma cooks for us.
Will definitely go back.
Awesome food with huge portions and lots of choices!. With my many visits to noshville i have never had a bad experience with the food, it has always been good.
Award for driest roast beef. Go to Jason's much better food. Way over rated don't waste your time and money at Trashville.
Good food with so-so service.
I've been to the Midtown location probably 15 times, and the Green Hills location four times. The food is always good, but if you're on even a somewhat tight schedule, forget it - just go to McDonalds. When a husband and wife order their breakfast at the same time, what is so difficult about serving their food within 15 minutes of each other?
Today at the Green Hills location, the waiter came up and asked us 'how our food was tasting'. My wife was finished with hers, and mine hadn't arrived. Can't taste anything on my side of the table yet, DUDE! Are you awake yet?
Then there was the time at the midtown location when I had to ask for capers for my Nova plate (paid extra for them) four times. I finally offered to go get them myself if he would just show me where they were in the kitchen. He wasn't even busy - had his butt parked inside the waiter area sharing giggles with his co-workers - right in plain sight of us.
Good food - if you can get it. Service is a D minus. Cooking is an A minus. Waiters and waitresses are polite, just non-observant and lazy from my experience. Hate to lump all the servers into one category of slackness, but that's what I've seen. The place stays very busy regardless, so the bad service probably won't change because of my review. Be prepared when you go.
I work for noshville.
I've worked for Noshville almost a year now. The plasce is great its a very friendly enviroment. It always makes are employees happy to see that are customers are satisfied. Are food is terrific. Everything is off the grill unless you order off the cold side of the menu. Noshville is somewhere i'd recommend for you to try at least once. Most of are customers have been coming there since we first opened which if im not mistaking has been about 12 to 13 years ago and some of are employees have been there that long. Noshville yes is an expensive place to eat but it is great food and great service. What some of these people don't understand is when you come in anywhere from 10-1 we are goin to be on at least 20 min wait most of the time longer but we try and be sure to make every thing as fast as possible and to make you comfortable and enjoy your experiance at noshville. We love to see all of are customers with a smile on they're face when they are walking out are door. I do apoligize for any inconvience with all of are customers. We enjoy seeing each and everyone of you everyday and your comments can always help us improve your experiance at noshville.
Thanks.
