Editorial Review for Jimmy Kelly's – by Mindy Merrell

In Short
Old Nashville at its finest--smokers, drinkers and carnivores fill the downstairs bar and rustic dining room, while more formal diners lounge upstairs in the quiet rooms at the top of the grand staircase. Crisp-fried onion rings, shrimp cocktail or shrimp remoulade are great starters. Choice steaks and seafood are served with rich twice-baked potatoes. The blue cheese-stuffed, bacon-wrapped filet would be an ideal choice for a last meal.

This establishment ruined my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary. On arrival the reservations we had made and reconfirmed were ignored. The outright rude wait staff bumped our chairs so often it felt like a crowded subway. Wait is the operative word for how long it took to get drink refills of which we only got one. Thank God; because mom’s tea had a R OACH floating in it. I grabbed the waiter who quietly scurried it away and I kid you not . . . . returned with the check. No apology, not even so much as an acknowledgment, they even CHARGED FOR THE TEA. Five people, $412.18.

Pros: good corn friters

Cons: over priced, bad service, diregarded reservations

Knew two generations of owner/mangers. Found the same good food and clever waiters but new manager/grandson not very hospitable or accomodating. Guess since I moved away and not a regular to him, we didn't deserve consideration. Manger/host acted interested then kept us waiting at the bar for an hour. Don't vary from the steaks, it's still a steak house.

Pros: Good food, good service, long wait.

Cons: Need to be a regular to get attention.

Old Nashville and old Nashville wanna-bes have been dining on these straightforward steaks and potatoes since 1934.  See the full editorial review.
