In Short – Think of a house that hasn't been redecorated in decades. The unchanging Elliston Place, which began life as a soda and burger shop and continues today as a meat-and-three and soda shop, maintains a definite '50s decor. Popular with nearby hospital workers and Vandy students and professors, it's a Nashville institution known for serving some of the best shakes in town.
Horribly dirty and slow

My dad took me and my grandmother here last year because it used to be the "hip" restaurant when he was younger. This place was so disgusting... the seats and table were sticky and dried up food was stuck to nearly all of the tables. The service was slow too... it was just an overall gross place. Oh yeah and my mashed potatoes were cold too. Not recommended.
- Pros: Old-fashioned feel
- Cons: Dirty, slow service
Insects on the floor, don't go unless you want a food-bourne illness

We went to this place because it was recommended in Frommer's. What a huge letdown. The food was tasted like it had been reheated several times. The decor is from the 40-50s but doesn't look like it has been cleaned since then. There was a stick in my green beans. We saw insects on the floor. Can't believe this place passed health code inspections.
Long past its prime

After a doctor's visit nearby, we stopped in for lunch today, since my father was craving a chocolate milkshake. The milkshake was good, but, when we saw the rating of 64 posted by the cash register, we should have left immediately. Admittedly, it was our mistake that we stayed anyway. The place is incredibly dirty as other posters have mentioned, the service was so horrible that I finally just went and fixed our tea and cokes myself, and managed to find some silverware behind the counter. A couple sitting behind us did the same. The young woman working at the cash register just sat and talked on the phone the entire time, ignoring the customers. The food was horrible--the chicken breast sandwiches were dry and rubbery, the roast beef overcooked and dried up, obviously left over from the lunch rush. It was all just disgusting, and we will never be back again. It is very sad what has happened to this place.
- Pros: location
- Cons: dried-up, tasteless food, really awful service
