Simply amazing!. Samuri is not a place to go if you want hand and foot service or an incredible atmosphere... you go here for one thing... the sushi. The place is small and cramped, the wall paper is from a xerox machine but the sushi is like nothing else in nashville. You have to be willing to expirament... try the special rolls and stay away from the traditional one... if it has fruit... its good
This sushi spot is a hidden gem on Elliston Place..
The Scene
This unassuming sushi restaurant nestled in the hipster commercial block of Elliston Place is cozy, inexpensive and user-friendly. Samurai changed owners recently, and new steward Choo, a skilled and creative South Korean sushi chef, has made marked improvements to the food and atmosphere alike. The ceilings are very low, which adds to the intimate feel of the room, and a small back dining area behind a curtain provides even more privacy for a handful of diners. Customers can also eat and drink (and trade banter with the chefs) at the long wooden main sushi bar.
The Food
Three words: Choo Choo Roll. This not-so-well kept secret--it is, in fact, only available off the menu--brings many repeat customers to Samurai Sushi. The Choo Choo consists of fresh water eel, crab, salmon and avocado, topped with a sliced strawberry, a soy glaze, and tiny peanuts. High marks are also due to the signature Samurai rolls, the genuinely spicy Spicy Tuna rolls and the $2 green salad with tangy ginger dressing. An assortment of Japanese beer is also available.
Shire, Baggins? Elliston, Sushi!. I recently found a great sushi restaurant with an interesting sushi chef (hand roll nearly brought tears). So in love with nashville i was, that I brought a friend there for a fun weekend, but the thing on my mind (other silly shopping) was sushi. I talked him into a sushi meal and with some hesitation he agreed (we'd been dating for nearly 2 years, he had to know the day would come). I got him to eat tuna roll (too chewy, typical response) veggie roll (loved it), yellowtail roll(hurrah!) somebody's mama roll (best)...this from a guy who got sick a red lobster once and won't eat seafood at all. he wants me to make sushi at home now. mr kim, you are the best! typhoon of tokyo (chattanooga tennessee) rules too! you got a guy who was afraid of seafood entirely to say " i keep remembering...sushi is GOOD!".....
This is supposed to be a top sushi place. I will admit the food was good but the service was very slow. The place did not look clean and the menu left alot to be desired. They had rolls but little else.
This place ROCKS!!!!. Mr. Kim knows his sushi! I have been to all the big fancy places and would never venture to any other place now. My husband and I discovered Mr. Kim Three years ago and have never turned back! The food, atmosphere and conversation can't be beat. thanks, Mr. Kim!
