My family generally visit's the J. Alexander's on White Bridge Rd once or twice a year, but yesterday my mom and I when to the one West End.
I find J. Alexander's food to be quite enjoyable. We always get the Spinach Queso dip with chips. It's super tasty. Then normally I order their club sandwich with fries. Their club sandwich is huge and very tasty. Usually I end up with too many fries, but I like to take them home and stick them in the oven. My favorite dessert of theirs is the Creme Brulee. I had never eaten Creme Brulee before going to J's. It is probably my favorite dessert I've eaten anywhere. However, the J. Alexander's on West End did not have it. I was so disappointed because that was my main reason for going.
The service is always good, and the environment is very comfortable. It usually doesn't take too long to be seated, unless you go during the lunch rush.
In the long run, my only complaint is about their coffee. J. Alexander's uses such fresh ingredients in their dishes, but they use instant coffee. I personally would choose fresh coffee over instant any day. I don't understand why a restaurant that is praised for being top notch can't use fresh coffee.
This probably will not keep me from going again, but it will always irritate me that I cannot enjoy good coffee with my meal.
One of our favorite places and location.
Absolutely love this resturaunt. While there may be some others better, we have found J Alexander's to be consistent and one you can go back to every week.
The tuna salad is to die for. As are the french beans when they have them. West End is our favorite location. I hope I havent just made it more crowded than it already is.
I've never been a fan of this restaurant. However, I was willing to give the new location on West End Ave a try.
I met a friend for lunch, so we could chat and catch up on our busy lives. She made an 11am appointment. We arrived and were seated right before the lunch crowd.
Our hostess was not friendly. And let me note that my friend is very personable.
The hostess just sat us down and walked away.
Our server was not personable at all. He was there to simply do his job.
The only thing I enjoyed was the trendy, chic design of the restaurant.
Other than that, nothing else.
Food was blah.
Menu very limited.
I won't go back and wouldn't recommend.
NEVER EVER DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS PLACE. I was around when it first opened. Every time that I visit I have a great experience. The staff has no problem taking the extra initiative to ensure that their customers are satisfied. Unlike some restaurants that leave you with one waitor(tress) that may or may not come in a timely fashion, this J. Alexander has waitors that dont limit themselves to just one table. I had three or four different people help me. My glass was never low, I was never in need for anything, I did not have to wait. I loved it!
My husband and I have visited a few times and even though always at the earlier part of the evening (5-7pm) we have had great service, food, and wine recommendations.
The parking is good, host staff has a little to be desired, but management always stops by our table to see how dinner is. We're always greeted quickly and the staff seems really good with food and wine recommendations.
I would highly recommend this location (as opposed to the White Bridge location)!!!
Great Food and Service. I recently dined at J. Alexanders for lunch for a business meeting and i was very impressed by everything. The decor is beautiful. The girls at the door greeted me immediatly and were very friendly. i was sat promptly. Our server, Lee, greeted us within seconds and told us about the features. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive to our every need. The food was brought out quickly and everything was in order and tasted great. I will most definitely be coming back here for lunch and dinner.
What, No takeout!. Can't Smoke, No Takeout...what do you do? I have always loved J Alexanders, but I will not be patronizing them anymore. No smoking, not even at the bar. I don't smoke, but some of my friends do and they treated us as if we had the plague...even me, I guess I was guilty by association. So we said that was fine we will just order to go. NOPE! They do not do that either. As much as I have always loved to dine there I will not continue to support a business that descriminates even it is against smokers and takeouters.
Disappointing food and ambience. Sitting anywhere near the kitchen has all the charm of a diner with all the shouting and dishes crashing. I ordered the special: a 20 oz ribeye. It was burnt (ordered medium well), very fatty and a great deal of the weight was the bone still attached. Quite possibly the worst steak I've ever had. I would have told the server but he never asked - he did a great job on the refills however. If you go, stay away from the kitchen seats and stick to items on the regular menu.
Professional service!. My husband and I dined here recently, and what an excellent experience. The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. They have a great wine list for a restaurant that isn't fine dining. I had the crab cakes..WONDERFUL. And to top it all off, it's a beautiful space. We will definitely be back!
Steak was AWEFUL!. I have been a J Alexanders fan for awhile. I have never eaten at this particular one though. It was horrible. I figured I would treat myself with some filet mignon and it had absolutely NO taste. Like picking up some meat out of the freezer at the store and taking chomping down. I have had hamburger meat that was better. For $25 I would expect something better. The steak was also not cooked right. The outside was burnt and hard to cut through. And it was medium rare! I will NEVER go back there. We took literally two bites of our food then asked for the ticket and the waitress didn't even ask if something was wrong with the food.
