Editorial Review for Windows on the Cumberland – by Clay Steakley

In Short
There's the atmosphere of a 1930s tramp bar, with the intimacy of your own living room. Boots, the joint's owner, mans the bar and runs the soundboard. Whether you walk in to find a singer-songwriter or freeform jazz, Boots has a musical treat in store. Surprise appearances sometimes take place, as many notable bands have set up residence here. Drink options range from beer to beer (with the occasional cider or Smirnoff Ice).

Cover charge varies depending on show. Often, bands just rely on a tip jar.

Look Good

The beer selection is nice and, frankly, if you can't sit at the bar and gaze out over the river while nursing a Budweiser, you don't belong here anyway.

User Reviews for Windows on the Cumberland

2 Star Rating: Below Average

My date and I went to check out Windows on the Cumberland thinking it would actually be somewhere near the river and it turned out to be this little boxed in beer only place around the corner from third and lindsley. I would go back if the music was right but I wouldn't recommend it for atmosphere or great location.

Pros: Decent Venue

Cons: No hard liquor

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

WINDOWS ON THE CUMBERLAND HAS WITHSTOOD MANY CHANGES IN THE DISTRICT. NOT TO MENTION BECOMING THE GRANDFATHER TO THE EVER CHANGING SISTER STORES THAT HAVE COME AND GONE THAT LEAD TO THE BAR. AT THE END OF THE WINDING PATH, THE BEAUTIFUL PANARAMIC VIEW OF THE CUMBERLAND RIVIER AND IT'S LANDMARKS (THE TITAN'S STADIUM, SHELBY ST BRIDGE, 1ST AVE) INSTANTLY PULL YOU INSIDE. THE PEOPLE YOU WILL MEET ARE AS WELCOMING AS THE WINDOWS THEMSELVES. JUST BEING NEWLY RENOVATED IS ANOTHER REASON TO SOON CHECK WINDOWS ON THE CUMBERLAND!
