Editorial Review for Sam Davis Home – by Rachel Tubman
In Short
Captured by Union soldiers during the Civil War, Davis was offered release in exchange for Confederate secrets. His refusal earned Davis a place in history. Davis's childhood home, 20 minutes outside Nashville, allows visitors to explore a typical middle-class family home of the 1820s. A guided tour takes visitors through the main house and out into the slave quarters, all built on 168 acres along the banks of Stewarts Creek.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoThough not as famous as Scarlett's "As God is my witness, I'll never go hungry again" speech, Confederate hero Sam Davis' immortal line, "If I had a thousand lives to live, I would give them rather than betray a friend" has caused many a Southerner's heart to soar.
