Calhoun's(Rivergate) Horrible Mother's Day 2011.
Service was horrible!!! We had a party of 5 plus (2 kids).
Server wasn't attentive to our party at all. We had to constantly ask for refills and she never offered us bread, but the table that were next to our recieved excellent service. To top it all off, my pregnant daughter found fly in her tea. We asked to speak w/ magr and only accomodation was free drinks. when asked to speak to General Mgr, he came to table and made a statement of " I have took off your drinks, there is nothing else that I can do for you people!" We are African American and he is Caucasin. After asking what he meant and that we felt offended, he asked us to leave cause we were disturbing his guest and employees. He then escorted us to front door and told us to leave except for person paying the tab!! Racism still exist in USA and this is a prime example of how iit is sometimes revealed. The rating I would give would be (-10) but not available.
Good Food, Good Atmosphere. The food at Calhouns is good, and the prices are very reasonable.
Monday's 1/2 lb angus & fries for only $4.99. The Best!.
I've been to this restaurant about 8-10 times and had the best experience every time. Their pretzel with beer cheese appetizer is exceptionally good as well as their 1/2 angus burger on Mondays for $4.99 is very good!
To be honest I haven't tried anything else, it's so good!
If it's Monday and you're looking for good food without breaking the bank, I highly suggest Calhoun's.
Don't waste your time. Waitress appeared friendly and brought drinks and food quickly, then forgot us. My wife's entree was too cold to eat and after asking 2 other servers to find ours, we had to go find her ourselves. She got it nuked for us but I had finished eating by that time and it still wasn't hot. Then we were brought a check with the manager's kid's dinner on it and some screwball explanation. BBQ was flavorful and sauce great but meat was consistency of bread!
This Tennessee rib chain prepares barbecue for the masses..
In Short
It has been going strong since the 1980s, and there's nothing trendy about it. Red-checked tablecloths, exposed-brick walls and a hopping, saloon-style bar appeal to the crowd of regulars who come for a decent meal and no surprises. "Award-winning" baby back ribs are bathed in a rich sauce. Spinach-artichoke dip, a fern-bar standby, is great with pre-dinner cocktails.
Tuesday nights-Live Jazz! Chili pasty not tasty!. The funky live jazz band on the patio was great! Wished I could have danced! I ordered the white chili soup and took only one bite. All I tasted was corn starch. And it was a very tiny portion for $5. The servers and cashiers were all sweet and adorable. The wine was good enough for a high, so after the bite of soup, I just had wine.
Good Atmosphere, Not for Beer Enthusiasts. Nice atmosphere. Not really romantic, more laid back and party style. The selection of beer has slowly diminished considerably. Now its more like the beer selection is an after-thought. Unfortunately, thats not a good idea when you are serving ribs. I do recommend the Chipotle Chicken. Its really good and a nice change from thier ususal menu.
Good value.
Good barbecue, with varied menu and cold beer.
Server had too many tables and one table monopolized his time.
