In Short
Few presidents' homes have as much to offer as the Hermitage, home of President Andrew Jackson. First built in 1819, the home was enlarged in 1831. After a fire in 1834, the home was rebuilt in the Greek Revival style. It has been under the care of the Ladies' Hermitage Association since 1889. Textiles and paint colors have been faithfully reproduced. Most of the furnishings are original and six rooms retain the original wallpaper.

The restaurant here offered decent food, but that was about the best they had to offer. The prices to visit the outside museum was extremely high, the food was a bit high too. You could not even drive by and look at the house you had to pay to get in to see it. I would not recommend taking the time to visit this historic site.

A must see. It is a step back in time and a fun learning experience. Somehow it appeals to both children and adults. The guides are knowledgeable, interesting and charming. The gardens are very special and you can picture Andrew Jackson sitting there in the evening mourning the loss of her precious wife, Rachel.

Andrew Jackson's home was so well preserved. He has much land and many unique buildings and gardens to explore. There is also a set of trails that you can take to get an even better feel of how much land was owned by this former president. Owning the largest number of slaves in history, the Hermitage now pays tribute to the loyalty and hard work as well as the family heritage of the people. The house itself is quite large and has beautiful wall paper that Mrs. Jackson chose herself. Good place to take the kids if they are studying this time period in history. There are many recordings that tell the story of how things looked in their present day as well which brings much of the area to life. Good souveneir shop as well.
