Franklin >SOL Restaurant
Yummy lunch in downtown Franklin!. We ate at SOL for lunch this weekend and it was great! First, the drinks were fantastic. We ordered two different kinds of margaritas and another mixed drink (for three of us) and they were all delicious and NOT watered down, as drinks so often are. Well worth the price for all of them. When lunch came, it was so yummy! Super fresh guacamole, jicama salad, meat, fish, and the rice is excellently flavored. The portions for lunch are not huge, but you get what you pay for in terms of quality of ingredients and taste. Highly recommended.
Top choice to eat out!!. If you're looking for a nice place to eat out, this is it! Beware that it is NOT like your typical Mexican joint. I love those places too, but this is more authentic Mexican with fresh ingredients. MUST HAVES: Guacamole (Prepared and served at your table), Jason's Martini (Pom martini), and Churros for dessert. My husband and I are going for my B-day tomorrow and these are the things I know I will get. Anything else you get will be fabulous as well. This is one of the few places we go that is excellent from start to finish.
Good Food and Atmosphere, Service Lacking. I have a tradition of going all out at a nice restaurant for my sister's birthday. I had heard about Sol from a friend, and the menu looked spectacular. I made a reservation for a Friday night, but found we didn't really need one--the restaurant was busy, but there wasn't a wait. We decided to order two unique appetizers. A couple minutes later, we got some chips and three kinds of salsa which we thought was complimentary, and then we got our other appetizer. Never got the other one we ordered. No big deal, we knew we'd be stuffed after the entrees. So we ordered the entrees, finished eating and wanted dessert. By the time I actually started timing how long we waited for someone acknowledge us, it was 5 minutes. Based on that, we probably waited about 15 minutes before someone checked on us. They have a waitstaff fleet that kind of wanders around, but during that time, not one of them so much as looked at us, even though we were clearly done. The table next to us had at least two waiters accomodating the many drink orders that each person made. Finally our waiter came by and said, "Well, it looks nothing changed since the last time I looked over here." Then we got desserts and coffee and all was well. Check came, we were charged for the chips and salsa, so I figure someone else got our other appetizer. The food was good - I got the lomito en mole poblano, and the pork was some of the most tender I've had, and I LOVE mole. Inventive, like I look for when I'm about to spend a lot of money. But the service was not the greatest, and it's really annoying to watch the drunky table get the best service in the room. Part of what you're paying for at a higher end restaurant is good service, so as a result, my experience last night was waaaay overpriced. It's possible for service to be casual and attentive at the same time. All in all, I recommend going, even if you're not part of the drunky table.
SOL IS IN A CLASS ALL BY ITSELF. YUM, YUM!. My husband and I have been to Sol twice now. Once by ourselves and the second time we recommended it to our friends and went with them. Both times we have been very pleased with the food, service and atmosphere. You need all three in order to be a GREAT restaurant. I'm from a large hispanic family from California (Napa, CA) and my mom is the best cook so for me to love a Mexican food restaurant says alot. The really cool thing is that it's not your typical burrito & taquito place. It's more of a gourmet, coastal Mexican menu. I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to eating out because I grew up on the west coast and hear about great restuarants in the Nashville area all the time, only to be disapointed when I try them out. Yes, Sol is a little pricey but you get what you pay for and it's worth it! FYI they also have great tequilla's. I love the quacamole (made table side) as well as the salsa. The seafood enchiladas are too die for! Also, try the chile relleno as an apetizer.....yummy! I highly recommend Sol to anyone.
Best homemade guacamole and Palmagranite Margarita in Franklin!. I tried SOL the other day with a group of neighborhood ladies for lunch. I was skeptical about it because I had heard that it was a little pricey. I ordered the mushroom and chicken quesadilla. It was marvelous! I ate it all and wanted more! The other ladies with me insisted I order the Palm Margarita. We had to order seconds! They were cool and tasted just right. The service was wonderful and we didn't have to wait very long for our food to come out. And don't let me forget, if you like guacamole, you should try their homemade and fresh guacamole as an appetizer with chips. I will definately be back. I would like to try their dinner menu.
