Avoid September's. I read all the bad reviews but wanted to see for myself. So after a daytime movie earlier this month I stopped in for a light meal. I didn't order anything complicated - just the soup of the day, and a half grilled cheese sandwich with garlic mashed potatoes. The entire meal was awful. I thought I had ordered tortilla chicken soup, but what I got was more like thickened potato soup that had been on the stove for a day or two. The sandwich was cold and the cheese never melted , it was just a pile of grated cheese between two slices of toast. I sent the mashed potatoes back as they were horrible! They were like a big ball of tasteless glue made from potatoes and water. I asked for french fries and you can find better fries at any McDonalds. Now don't think this mess of a meal happened because they were busy. I think we were probably the only ones in the restaurant at the time. And for some reason the waitress plopped herself down on a chair next to us for an unwanted chat. I'll never go back and expect to see a "closed forever" sign in the window soon.
Much needed in this area!!.
I will admit, I was a little skeptical about this place because of some bad reviews that I've found on the internet. But after eating there with my family last week, I will start being skeptical of bad reviews that I read!! We had a fabulous time!
The ambiance grabbed us from the moment we walked into the restaurant. I had no idea it was so beautiful, warm & inviting inside! My husband & I were apprehensive about bringing the kids at first, but the kids' menu has many options and my youngest was actually able to find something he likes. This place is definitely kid friendly and my kids loved the idea of going to a "fancy place". The service was excellent. Beverly was great with my kids and very attentive to how needy a family with young ones can be.
My husband and I have heard from a couple of people that the menu is a little pricey, but we didn't find that to be the case at all! I think the prices were right on the dot for the quality AND the quantity that they serve. My husband had the Pork Chop (huge portion!!) and I had the fresh fish of the day. You cannot go wrong with the fish of the day!! I've heard the scallops are amazing, so I know what I'm getting next.
I'm looking forward to our next date night. We are definitely coming here. It is so nice to have a restaurant of this caliber in this area so we don't have to go downtown!
Thank you September?s! We will be supporting you.
superior service, new menu items, desserts - wow!. I was more than surprised at our recent visit to September's. We made the mistake of going during the first few weeks of opening. I have done this with more than one restaurant and should have learned my lesson. I suppose things aren't done quite right. Anyway, my husband and our 2 kids went Saturday night and they were talking about the new things on the menu for the fall. This was a new one for us. We (and our friends) frequent Cheddar's and the menu is always the same. So we had to spend some time studying. Our waiter was very patient and explained the new stuff to us - they had food that H'ville does not normally have - scallops - yum - one of my favorites as well as short ribs- and lamb. Not a favorite but one of our friends love it so I will have to tell him. Dinner was fab - our kids were excited we took them - they always wanted to dine out at a classy restaurant and the food they had was eaten completely. Septembers did not have a printed kids menu but the waiter knew what items were available for kids - good selection -it took care of my picky ones. Anyway - we were taken care of and felt special and the food was great - along with the service - much improved over the opening visit. I think we have found our spot in H'ville. Also they had a jazz group on the patio with the firepit - if we had not had the kids we would have stayed - they sounded really good.
Not a quick bite.... I was at September's with a group of women friends for a quick bite to eat before a movie...Although the restaurant was serving only two tables, it took 25 minutes to seat us outside. The service took over one and one half hours to be on our way, making us late for the start of the movie. All I had was the "flourless" chocolate cake with orange glaze for $8 and coffee. The glaze was outstanding, but the cake was stale and the chocolate icing was tasteless. Still we had a good time- the linens and table herbs were nice.
great music night. Heard about live music at the new center in Hendersonville on Indian Lake. Made reservations to sit on the patio at September's. Read the review in the paper a few weeks ago and we have been trying to make it there - so the weather was going to be right and thought it would be a good time to enjoy. And enjoy we did. The music was in the grass behind the restaurant. We could hear the music perfectly although the band had their back to us. But we could see the fountains and the kids playing - what a great location. We also had great mojitos - very fresh mint and the 3 of us each had a different menu item. My salad was huge and tasty - had to take some home, my husband had stuffed burger and he loved it, my child had chicken fingers and the macaroni and cheese (I could have made a pig out of myself with that). All in all we had a great night and will return again - maybe next Thursday.
I really WANT to like this restaurant, but you're making it hard!.
This was our second visit to Septembers in a month - we had a mediocre experience the first time (see my earlier review) and hope the 2nd time would be better - it wasn't.
I ordered the tuna and my wife the grouper special. Her's was fine. Mine was not - the couscous (who conciously orders couscous) was COLD as were the side vegatables -COLD, COLD, COLD. I mean COLD. The tuna itself was fine, even good. I sent it back. The reply from the kitchen was - we serve our couscous cold - warming it ruins it. Honestly, not a big fan of couscouse - but who in the hell eats it cold - especially with a warm dinner. I could see if it was a salad. Plus the vegatables were cold as well.
This time our salads came quickely, although mine had no salad dressing - an oversight our waiter soon corrected. And there was no butter.
This was sorta a rebound dinner, we had planned on going to a new restaurant up the street, but they weren't open yet - so stupid us gave Septembers another try.
We won't again - I guarantee you. Not after $100 for this..just doesn't know how to run a real restaurant - stick with the lunchette crowd!!
best pace to go for that special event. i took my wife out fri night for our 12 yr anv the server was awsome had great knowlege of the wine menu and brought us a few different samples till we had one we loved and he let us try a sample of the bread pudding whice was truely awsome i ailso had the duck and my wife had the filet which was truely great . i dont remember our servers name but he said he was the only one who had a special 9 pen and i see why be sure to ask forthe guy with the 9 pen and get the duck
Don't do it. I have eaten at Septembers twice since they opened. The first time was a wonderful experince, and I was excited that Hendersonville finally got a great restaurant. The second time, I decided I was not going back ever again. We made a reservation for a booth, but when we arrived even though there were plenty of available booths, they sat us at a table. While being seated at the table the host who was seating us was briskly wisked away by the manager. She came back and did not even apologize for her surprise departure. I reminder her that we were the paying customers. She made some excuse about her manager requesting her attention. They finally got us a booth, and we ordered salads. They brought to many salads for the number of people at the table. The food was horrible. One person in our party got the same item that ordered last time. It looked like a different dish. I could not even find the vegtables on my plate. I am willing to pay the price for outstanding service and food, but September's is far from it. When we complained that the food was not good, the waiter said he would spread the word. We did not even get a visit from the manager, let alone the owner, and I know she was there. By the way lo mein noodles should be listed as lo mein noodles, not pasta.
Great wine tasting!.
My friends and I went to September's last night for a wine tasting - very good. They had 4 wines for us to try along with food that was to compliment the wines. The wines were great - we got to taste some things that we might not have normally selected. The food was a perfect match to the wines. It will help me in pairing wine with food on future visits and at home. Plus they had a person there to talk more about the wine and they gave us all tasting info.
They had the tasting on their cool front patio with the fire pit. A perfect evening with my friends. We will do this again.
So-So September's. It's hard not to love the vibe, September's really has a sharp, classy look. But when it gets right down to it, there are way too many "good but not great" restaurants in the Hendersonville area to be just "another pretty face", September's needed to excel in every area but fell short. The service was only mediocre, timing of the food delivery was terrible and a huge tray dropped by a waiter at an adjacent table, sending food splattering over one of my kids, didn't get so much as an apology. I didn't so much mind the 45 minute wait, (you expect that on a weekend) but it was insulting when the waitress kept saying "about 5 more minutes" after first telling us that the wait would be 20 minutes to a half-hour. The staff, while sharp and professional in appearance seemed disconnected and bordering on snobbish. The average-quality meals served at higher-than-average prices rounded out a consistently blase dining experience. I hope September's management gets a handle on just how much work they have ahead of them to compete for our hard earned dining dollars, but it would take a lot to make me give September's a second chance. First impressions are just too important.
