Editorial Review for The Place on South 2nd – by Andrew Kerr
In Short
Featuring a wide range of local and national musicians, this well-stocked blues bar boasts live music daily and a Cajun-influenced menu complete with New Orleans-style barbecue shrimp with the house's take on hoodoo dipping sauce. A fully-stocked 360-degree upper bar overlooks the sizable lower level's full stage and dance floor. A cool neon blue vibe permeates the main lounge, with the large outdoor patio occasionally stealing the show during warmer weather.

When it comes to night clubs and lounges, I am an expert. I was once a highly regarded cocktail server in the night club industry for 6 years (paid my way through college) and I know a good club when I get there. I read the reviews and it was shocking to see several "White" patrons who discussed horrible treatment at the expense of their skin. I actually met a really great guy at "The Place" this past winter that happens to be white. We dated for a few months and he was never treated inappropriately while visiting the club. If my family comes in town I always tell them to go to the place. It has a great atmosphere and I love the music, especially when DJ Rage is on the ones and twos. The bartenders are great too!! My drinks are very well made (I recommend Nia she is the BEST Bartender) and if it wasn’t for the large crowd, I'm pretty sure my drinks would get to me a little faster!!! Every club has its ups and downs and the security can be a little firm at times, but hey that’s what they get paid for, I value my safety. The owner is very nice and he actually mingles with his guest to make sure they are having a good time. The only thing I can say bad about "The Place" is they need to learn not to have their guest waiting outside for the appearance of a large crowd, its cold outside for the most part. If your family is is town, white or black, and they love Old School & New School R & B and Hip Hop, this is the place. If you want to see a live band or catch a great comedy show, this is "The Place". Highly Recommended, See ya Saturday!! BTW NO MORE SMOKING... People have to go outside now to smoke!!!
Pros: Ambience, Drinks, Music, Celebrities
Cons: Long Lines for no reason, Smoking outside (even blacks)

Well I went to The Place on sat. and today is mon. and I still can not hear .The music was so loud that everyone leaving had some hearing damage. The drinks are served in small plastic cups and are 7.00 or more and are mostly ICE!! Drink before you get there and you will have a good time. The music was great and hopefully my hearing will return soon!
Pros: The DJ was great
Cons: I still can't hear after 2 days(loud music), The drinks are VERY SMALL and over priced!!!
