Inside the Walnut Exchange building's avocado walls with plum-colored awning, this market and cafe lures food lovers with a French-inspired menu and take-home treats such as pastries and prepared foods. While shabby-chic cabinets and racks pack tins of steel cut oats, artisan crackers, Scharffen Berger chocolate and loaves of house-made bread, the glass cases at the bustling counter and open kitchen offer wheels of stinky epoisse, hunks of prosciutto and containers of demi-glace and marinated olives.

Ordered the mouth-watering-sounding buttermilk breaded fried chicken sammy for lunch. It arrived obviously undercooked. I sent it back. When it came back to me, my lunch companions were halfway through their lunches and my chicken sammy was still UNDERCOOKED. As in difficult to cut with a knife, almost raw undercooked. I decided against sending it back a second time because... two chances to cook this chicken is one too many and we had to get back to work. I won't be dining there again.

I was in town on business and brought my wife, so we decided to do an early Valentine meal. She loves French cuisine so I searched for good Nashville options. We were intending to go to Margots and when a parking spot was not readily available, we made the block and found this gem. I had seen it on this site earlier, but was under the mistaken impression that they did not serve dinner. As parking here was abundant we pulled in and I picked up a menu. We could not have been more pleased with our experience. We shared an appetizer of roasted tomatoes, cured olives and fried white beans and had a nice salad. For our entrees, I had the beef short rib special which melted in my mouth, and my wife had a beautifully presented vegetarian plate with a walnut encrusted portabello mushroom, a sweet potato mash, and roasted brussel sprouts with pine nuts. We finished our meal with a great pot-de-creme and a creme brulee. Everything was great, the service was excellent, and the price- with a glass of wine and coffees, under $75! I felt like we got a lot of quality and quantity for a good price. We are not high-dollar big spending foodies, but we love a good meal, and this one was definitely a great find.
