In Short – This brown and pink storefront is all about the silver cases of colorful cakes that occupy most of the space. Nearly all customers order whole cakes to go or come in for a quick snack, but some linger at the small tables in front. Owner Juanita Lane specializes in beautiful special-occasion cakes and makes even her lemon curd from scratch. Favorites include chocolate turtle cake with homemade caramel and coconut cream pie with macadamia-nut crust.
Editor's Tips
- Save Money:
- Many of the cakes are also available in individual sizes for $5-7.
- Know Before You Go:
- Whole cakes and pies are popular, so it's best to order them 48 hours in advance.
BEST WEDDING CAKE AND CUPCAKES EVER
by sthomps at Citysearch
Juanita and her staff made my wedding STRESS FREE when it came to the quality, taste, design, and creativity of our wedding cake. She took her time, designed a cake based on my wedding dress, colors, and taste, and delivered a wedding cake (and DELICIOUS grooms 'cupcakes') that my guests could NOT stop raving about. It was delicious, exquisite, elegant, and affordable. Juanita and her wonderful staff were courteous, skilled, professional, and reliable. They were also fun, creative, and accommodating, and have my husband and I as customers for life.
- Pros: Exceptional Service, Delicious Desserts, Competitive Prices
- Cons: Parking (which they have no control over...!!)
Very disappointed

Cupcakes for a special birthday, Boston creme, red velvet, coconut, chocolate mouse. Cakes were dry and lack luster. Toppings were basically whipped cream with a little sugar and a hint of vanilla. Toppers did not cover cakes which allowed the cake of be even drier. Cupcakes were small in portion. The red velvet was actually a spice cake without a cream cheese icing. Could only identify the mouse topper as chocolate because of the light brown color. The chocolate cake crumbled when forked. Very disappointed and embarrassed at party with product.
- Pros: variety
- Cons: product undeserving of praise
Dulce = Delicious

I started out just going to Dulce Desserts for a possible wedding cake, what I found was an amazing person who has an unbelievable talent for baking life's sweetest moments into a single bite! Juanita is a wonderful happy-go-lucky gal who has a tremendous amount a talent for baking. After talking to several different people around town and doing some small tastings, I had not found anyone suitable for our summer wedding cake. then I went into Dulce and met Juanita. Her personality was so outgoing and vivacious I felt as if we were long lost friends! She has this amazing ability to make you feel as if you are the only person important even though you know she has a million other things going on. Her cakes are moist and delicious and I have never liked fondont icing and I told her this and she insisted I try it, I would like it. After much of me telling her it's not you it's me, i finally tasted it and found the only fondont icing that actually has flavor! We ended up doing a five layer cake with three different flovors, lemon cake with her amazing homemade lemon curd and lemon buttercream icing with fresh strawberries, Chocolate and butter cream cake with white chocolate icing and a chocolate genache swirl and a rasberry puree, and then an amazing spice cake with butter cream icing and a caramel swirl. The flavor was to die for but the beauty of our cake was just as fantastic! Our guests has told us how beautiful our cake was and how they each would share so they could try all of the flavors! Along with our wedding cake we have had Juanita make two different birhtday cakes, several cupcakes and an assortment of cookies ofr parties we have had. Every single time we are left wanting more or her delicious treats and she is so easy to talk to and a very upfront and honest owner that I never leave with a concern of there being something ese better. Of course with anything big a cake you should always try and call in your order as soon as possible! Every bite is worth it!
- Pros: Everything is delicious!
Special treats with superb service!

After reading a June '08 review and hearing raves from friends, I made a point to visit the little bakery on Villa Place - Dulce Desserts. When I arrived, I was greeted by the owner who was in the middle of creating a memorable and unique groom's cake. She put down her pastry bag and invited me to look at a variety of her creations. She and her employees were so friendly and helpful. I selected a variety of cupcakes - banana split, vanilla, chocolate chocolate - to share with my family. (I have 2 boys.) We all agreed that the cupcakes were the BEST we'd ever enjoyed. These cupcakes are not to be swallowed in 2 bites. The richness of the cake combined with the lightness of the whipped icing make these cupcakes a gourmet delight!
I like these folks and their creations so much that I brought an out-of-town guest to the bakery for an indulgence. She and I will be back with others in tow.
Dulce Desserts is not just cupcakes. Their bakery goods and specialty cakes are works of art - delicious ones at that.
- Pros: Service and quality of food
poor customer service

I tried calling on a Thursday about the possibility of getting a cake for Saturday. When I called, I said, "I realize this is short notice, but I'm looking for a cake for Sat".
[Dulce] "That is short notice, but tell me what you were looking for".
[Me] "Anything really".
[Dulce] "Is it s special occasion?"
[Me] "No, we just have some family around and I was looking for a nice dessert."
[Dulce] "Oh, then you should just have our gourmet cupcakes."
[Me] "well, OK, I guess I -"
[Dulce] "Thank you, goodbye." Click.
So, they *might* be able to make me a cake on two days notice if I had a special occasion, but if I don't have a good reason or a specific cake requirement, then I am relegated to cupcakes without further discussion? They left me with the impression that not all customers are created equal -- and maybe that is reality, but it's not good business to leave your "sub-standard" customer feeling that way.
By comparison, on friday (now, 1 day notice) I called Sweet 16th and had a similar conversation until the cupcake line, at which point the person from Sweet 16th took a moment to look if there were any options for a short notice cake. And, as luck would have it, they found a chocolate cake for me. And now, my business is their's to lose.
- Cons: poor customer service
