From The Owner of Taki

This unexpectedly beautiful restaurant in an unassuming strip mall brings Japanese cuisine to Hermitage, right off 1-40's Old Hickory exit.

New Ownership = Disappointment. I used to be a regular customer of Taki and once proclaimed it the "Best Sushi in Nashville" as many others have in this forum. I'm not sure why the old owners sold the place, but since the ownership transfer, the sushi has gone downhill. They've made subtle changes to many of the original rolls that have not helped. The rice is different as well, seems like bigger grains of rice which I'm sure cut costs by helping to make the rolls appear the same size by using less fish, etc.

Don't waste your time anymore. It's sad, this place used to be great. And thus, the search for a new sushi place begins.

Skip it- from a former regular. i was a regular and at one time I would have agreed with most of the positive comments, although I never thought the staff were any friendly. However after being a regular customer for years and even bringing coworkers there are lunch, I will never eat at Taki again. I was given bad fish, bad raw fish a possible health concern, on purpose. Being a loyal customer, I called Taki thinking a mistake was made. After explaining the situation, they hung up on me. So I went back to Taki, hoping they would make things right. They quickly tossed the bad fish and screamed at me to get out. Never once did they dispute the bad fish or apologize or offer to make it right or offer anything. Now, if they treat their regular customers like this they cannot understand the value of customers or of quality food.

Excellent Sushi!. Ha ha! We live only a mile from Taki! It's great. I never even liked sushi until I began eating here. My husband likes to try different things each time, but as for me, I'm stuck on their spicy salmon rolls add cucumber. Very good sushi, and prices are excellent.

One of my favorites!. I live in Hermitage so I love having Taki just 5 minutes away. Every time I go in there the staff is so helpful, always ready to offer a suggestion if I don't know what I want and they never laugh at my pronunciations. The food is always great, rolls are big (I recomend the crunchy shrimp...yum) and you get a lot. Prices are VERY reasonable.

Sushi is above average, but not the best in town. I have been complaining for years that there was no place to get Sushi on this side of town, since we live in Hermtage. I thank my lucky stars that Taki has opened up. The inside is small and cozy, but very nice. Contemporary with all natural wood paneling. Looks are deceiving from the outside. Prices are fair. The sushi is decent, above average, but by no means the best in town. Either these other reviewers have not been to the right places, or just lack a sophisticated palate for sushi. I have eaten at most of the sushi restaurants in Nashville, and I travel around the country and have tried others. What you have here is good (not great) sushi that is worth a stop if you are on this side of town. You can also order take out, which works great for me since I have two young children

Bland Taste, Bland Service. I don't know what the positive reviews were all about. I decided to try this place out this evening and I have to say that I do not agree with these positve opinions. There were 4 other diners in the resturant and after waiting at the sushi bar for 5 minutes I was asked whether I wanted carry-out or dine in and handed a menu when I replied dine-in. Another 10 minutes went by and I was asked for my drink order. 5 minutes later with my Diet Coke in hand she asks for my order. I finished my Alaska roll but it was just bland. I tried one piece of the Dancing Roll and 1 piece of the Ebi Tempura Roll but again it was just bland. Leaving my rolls practically un touched I asked for my check and the Sushi chef and waitress never asked if everything was okay. I've never been much for complaining about my food unless asked. It was obvious that I didn't care much for the taste of my order. I think that Nashville has much more to offer than this place. Yes the inside is decorated suprisingly well considering the outside appearance but I believe that Jack and Kate should have spent more time preparing a more thorough menu that incorporates more flavor and variety. I can't say that I will be back anytime soon but I would consider trying it again in a few months.

Very Personable and Delicious. Jack and Kate run this place and are fabulous at this business! The appearance is very deceiving, we had to go for the first time on a recommendation. Otherwise, I regret to say that we may never have tried it. The variety is so great and not to mention the quality of the food. We have always had questions answered with a smile and we have been encouraged to try new things. We go there at least once and sometimes twice a week. Just this past Saturday night, I said to my husband, "we are probably putting their kids through college, we eat here so much!" I hope that this restaurant does extremely well because they work hard at it and it shows!

TAKI: Best Sushi in Nashville!!. I have eaten sushi all over the U.S. and Taki ranks with the best. I eat at Taki's an average of twice a week and have never had a bad meal. The sushi is always fresh and of the highest quality.Ther service is prompt and friendly. Jack and Kate are very knowledgeable and informative to thoes who need help in ordreing or answering questions. My favorite is to ask Jack to prepare an assortment of his freshest sushimi and some of the choices(giant clam, monk fish, fluke, white tuna) I have never had until Jack served them to me. They have a good selection of noodle dishes and some really interesting appetizers and salads. I have recommended Taki to my friends and all have said they will go back again.

Good Luck Jack and Kate!!
